C.J. - weird behaviour

Hey Folks,

I am new to the forum and am reaching out for help with my kitty.

C.J. is 13 and has been a little sick for awhile. He vomits chronically and is pretty thin. He has a good coat, is social, still has a good appetite and can still jump with no problems. The vets tested him for all kinds of stuff, everything came up negative. The vet gave him an antibiotic shot, which didn't seem to do anything. We put him on hypoallergenic food, so now he only vomits liquids, instead of his kibbles. The vet wants to do a specialty ultrasound to test if he has pancreatic cancer. If he does, he will not get treated...

Lately his behaviour has started to change. He is bad right in front of me. He tries to lick my plate and doesn't even react as if he is in trouble. In the last 3 days, he has peed in his bed twice. He has NEVER peed anywhere but in the littler box, in all his 13 years.

I feel like he is declining. Like he is sick and starting to lose his witts.

Have any of you experienced anything like this?

Thanks,
Shel

Was it the T4 thyroid that was also tested and came back normal?

In the urine test did they check for crystals and do a culture & sensitivity for bacterial growth?

Absolutely everything on the blood test came back in normal range?

Any changes in the house in the last 6 weeks? new litter, new food, new cleaning product, new person or person leaving, moved houses, new animal?

Yes, thyroid!

Yes, urine tests.

Blood looked pretty good, dr said. He didn't say everything was normal though. I think it was the blood test that trigger him to think that it could be pancreatic cancer...

Changes in the house...no. Everything is the same.

Vomit mostly clear with grits from his food, same colour as the food.

See if you can get a copy of the blood & urine results & post the numbers that are not in normal range with the reference range, that will help me to give you an indication of what is going on.

An ultrasound would be a good idea to have a clear picture of what is happening in CJ's abdomin, not just the pancreas but also see how the kidneys, bladder & intestines look.

Is CJ only on dry food or do you feed canned also? Have you noticed any particular brand/flavour that makes him vomit more than others?

Sounds like it's just stomach acid & food then, without bile.

Is CJ only vomiting first thing in the morning after his breakfast or is it various times throughout the day/night?

Here is a great site with lots of information about why cats should not be eating dry food & the health risks associated with dry food, why canned is so much better for them -water with their food- and how to transition to a healthy canned diet.
http://www.catinfo.org/

This one lists some of the top quality foods that contain real meat most without unneccessary grains and no corn/cellulose fillers.
