Bizzare situation - what would u do???

Ok.....so I'm coming home tonight from the gym just after 9 pm, driving thru my normally quiet, residential area neighbourhood when I pull up to a stop sign and see:

two men, dressed in full camoflauge - with some seriously big **s guns! (I'm not a gun expert....but they were *not* riffles....more like a machine gun..)
One of the guys was just standing there (with one of those neon 'traffic' vests), but the other was kneeling down, gun pointed around the corner! I did a double take, then scanned across the street - two more guys, both with guns firmly fixed on *something*

So....I'm still a bit stunned at what I'm seeing around me - and I'm looking straight at the guy w/ the vest - but he's not saying/doing anything but looking back at me (ie. motioning me to leave, etc) ....

I have no idea what the heck is going on - but figure better just get out of the 'immediate' area.....as I continue a block down the street I see a man out walking his dog & I'm wondering what to do???
(we have an armory located a few kms away & a military area a few kms the other way....but in the 8 yrs I've been here, I've *never* seen them off the base w/ guns!)

So....what do you do when you come across the absolute bizzare??

a) Call the police? Verify this is a training exercise?
b) Roll down the window & ask the guy w/ the vest? (Seriously - I'm not even sure what I'd ask??? Hi mister nice man w/ the big gun.....is everything ok?? )
c) Pretend u saw nothing - and just keep driving?
d) Warn the guy walking the dog walking towards them?
e) Start chatting up the cute one on the far corner
f) Nothing?

What did I do? Slowed to warn the guy walking the dog, but he started crossing the street to go in a different direction......then ran over to my neighbours to see if they knew anything......evidently one of them ran into the same thing last week - but the saw a police officer, who told them it was a military exercise & they've been doing them for the past few wks!!! (Of course, they laughed at me, having already figured it out... )

So, all is almost back to normal....well, whatever that is...

My first thought would have been to look for the movie crew...especially in Hamilton! But I would have tried to warn the guy w/the dog if I didn't see a film crew. I used to live right by Copps Coliseum there in Hamilton, and I remember seeing a bus "crashed" into the arena one day, with lots of debris in the street. Yikes!

Ever come upon a disaster-preparedness drill? Here in Cornwall one year, they put a crumpled plane in front of City Hall to simulate a crash for the emergency crews. Now, that caused a double-take! I was wondering how the heck I missed the sound of the crash when I live less than a block away.

g) drive around the block over and over hoping to figure it out without having to talk with the guys with the GUNS.

I'd go home, pull out my sniper rifle, put on my camo and go join in the fun! (Seriously I would...)

Hamilton does train soldiers in the streets and there was even a news story about it last night (don’t know what station). Usually residents are warned.

Either that or George W. Bush has finally decided that Ontario may want democracy restored to them.

That was my first thought.....esp since my 'normal' dog route was taken over by film crews most of last summer & fall ........only I would have been driving thru the set w/ my shiny red car

My roommate in university was dating a guy from RMC (Kingston) - and every once in a while he'd phone up saying he wouldn't be making it down until the next day...they had Kingston 'under siege'.....but they lost some of the ammunition (how comforting!!) and couldn't be released from the drill until it was found & accounted for .....and now we let him fly search & rescue helicopters .......that was the only reason I knew about those types of drills.....but I've never heard of them being done in a residential neighbourhood!...and the unfortunate reality is, while I like my area & feel safe, it's not as if there's never been a major drug bust......

*does a double take at this thread*
did i read this right?? lol

uhhh....well I'm not familiar with anything army related but aren't they SUPPOSED to train inside a special encolsed area ?? away from innocent bystanders??

big guns...small guns...toy guns...scare the crap out of me. If i was you I probably would've done a U turn hehe.

A few years back I was visiting France and they have(or had) soldiers patrolling with big a** guns around the touristy areas. Mind you it took me a week to actually get in at the Louvre because I kept turning around everytime I saw them patrolling with guns. *shrug* hehe

Geez...in a residential area??

Last time we saw men with guns in our neighbourhood it was the police and an officer died. got to admit I am glad to see a lighter side of this, but when I see guns I get scared and go home...quickly.

What can I say, I'm originally from Philadelphia! My city actually ran a baseball pitcher out of town with threats after the world series. We throw snowballs at opposing team quarterbacks at football games. We also have a court & jail in our sports stadium. Gotta love it!

I ain't afraid of no stinkin' military exercise.

Ahhh....that explains it
It ain't the 'city of brotherly love' when you go to cheer the Leafs on during a playoff game against the Flyers....I thought we were going to have our butts kicked before we got out of the parking lot.....and that was after the Leafs LOST!!! (Hate to see what happens when the Flyers loose !)
