Try to walk Fate??

Every day when we go and get Bailey for her walk,Fate(2yr old Husky)sits by her fence and watches.
Of course we give her treats and cuddles, but we would like to take her along, she knows us already.
She is a sweetheart not dog-agressive at all,but is not used to a leash or going for walks.
It probably would be a disaster, but we would like to try, what do you think???
Hubby would take Fate and I would walk Bailey..

A good start would be to arrange a training session in Fate's backyard--bring a leash and see how she does inside her fence. It won't be a true test of how she'll behave on a walk, but at least your hubby wil be able to see if he's gonna have shoulders pulled out of their sockets by an over-exuberrant dog!

How do you think Bailey would take to having Fate along? Think Fate would want to play the whole way, or do you think they'd both just focus on the walk?

that would be a good start

After that take fate outside her fence just up to the corner and back without Bailey for a couple of times, just to see how it goes.

then I would introduce bailey just up to the corner and back to see if they walk well together.

Try to walk

Kudos to you Chico for caring about Fate and giving her some well needed attention in the form of a walk..

Well, talked to the owner,I think he's afraid we would lose her, can't say I blame him and we are inexperienced in dog-training for sure:sad:
I feel Fate needs to be leash-trained,but that's not really any of our business.
She would want to play with Bailey for sure,we would probably end up with a tangle of leashes and dogs
Maybe the owner would let us start slow in her own yard,I would like to see her in some sort of harness, rather than the loose collar she has now.
We have not given up yet

Chico2, you are amazing! Most owners can't be bothered making sure their own dogs get exercise, never mind about the neighbours!

I want to be just like you when I grow up.

Chico,

I think it is a good start. Like said above, Maybe try using a gentle leader. They are easier to control a dog that is not used to walking on a lease.

They have a headcollar:

And a harness,

I am sure you can buy them at Petsmart or pet valu.

I remember I was dropping off kittens at the petsmart for work. A lady came up to me and just had adopted a dog (not at our shelter) that had not training on a leash what so ever..to the point that she couldn't even control the dog. I suggested the gentle leader. She put it on the dog and walked him around the store. About 20 mins later found me in the store and came up and couldn't believe the difference it gentle leader made. She said he was a totally different dog and couldn't stop thanking me *lol*

Oh chico, you and DH are . That would do Fate a world of good. Maybe start with tiny walks then go farther from the home, after the back yard test??

Chico, I get the feeling after you got her used to the leash and she was able to get out of the yard for a bit on a daily basis, she'd be easier to walk.

Poor girl is cooped up there every day.

I hope you can convince her owner to let you try.

I would love to try a gentle leader on her,but buying it,no,hubby will not go for that, the owner will have to buy it.
We've already bought a 15 foot leash, sweaters and lots of treats over the years for Bailey and Fate.
I would buy it in a heartbeat, but she is not our dog after all and our cats are costing us plenty.
Fate is soooo beautiful and so very sweet,I just love her.
Bailey would be ok with her,but she is not much in to playing.
I'll talk to the owner this weekend, about getting a Gentle Leader..

Jim,no,she's never been walked,but I don't think she's suffering,they love her very much.
She has a big yard to be in,has everything she needs.
When the owner is home, she is always off leash and is very obedient.

LOL, now isn't that the pot calling the kettle black.

I think Fate would do well learning to walk with you guys, and no doubt she'd want to play with Bailey. You can always go visit and just put a leash on her and let her drag it around, then go from there.

Aslan, you know Fate and have met James and we would really, really love to take her along, she knows us well,so I don't think that would be a problem.
However,I am concerned about her getting out of her collar and running away.I would never forgivve myself.
A gentle leader might be the answer.
I know Nikki, his wife, would love to walk Fate and the baby together.
