And Then There Were Eight

Yes it's true, unbelievable maybe but true. Seven dogs wasn't enough, now I have eight (nine if you count DH's beagle, but he's "his" hunting dog and mine are well, "mine") So what's the matter with me, his name doesn't even fit, it's not Tornado or Blizzard or anything weather related like the rest of my crew, he's called Dru but...he's Rain and Storm's younger brother and Flurry's half-brother. Several months ago when I found out about the pups they were all gone but two and one of those was also spoken for. I had my eye on Dru, knowing that his mom was being spayed and he was my last chance to own another sibling of my others, but he wasn't available, they were keeping him. Things have changed, somebody gave them another puppy (I'm not really sure of those circumstances, if she was meant for them or to be placed through their rescue). Anyhow, they're keeping her and feel that raising the two pups right now would be too much (they're a working farm plus border collie rescue and busy, busy) so they offered me Dru for Christmas! They know I work my dogs at sledding and I take them down their farm to work with their sheep and they knew I'd give him lots to do. So here he is, he's 5 months old. He is such a lovable well-adjusted pup and he's already fitting right in with my "pack"

Oh and here he is with his Anatolian Shepherd buddies from when he was younger. They're the livestock guardians at the farm.

The big guy the pups are "kissing" with is just a pup himself, I think around 8 months at the time of the picture.

I must say that you've picked the perfect number for a Pack...

Not that hazel is biassed or anything.

He's a doll, Gail!

I'm sure he's going to enjoy himself with his new-found family.

Dru is such a sweetheart and he's already acting as though he's always been here. Absolutely nothing fazes him, new home, new dogs, new routine, he's just taking it all in stride. Even the time I'm spending on the computer like now, he just lies down and sleeps around my computer, same as the other dogs. He was already crate trained but I thought maybe in a new home he'd fuss a bit but not a peep out of him after I put him to bed, not even when DH got called in to work early Sunday morning and when his alarm went early this morning. Dru was happy to stay quiet in his crate until I got up and let him out. And the kisses and cuddles from this pup! I wasn't sure if being 5 months instead of 8-10 weeks would make a difference in how quickly he took to us but he just loves everybody. He is such a happy and self confident puppy.

HRP I immediately thought of you when there came to be eight

He's a cute one So nice that he's fit right into the pack, i'm sure he will be a star member.

Your doggies sound like they have the perfect border collie life - a little work, lots of play and great people to snuggle with

Yes, it doesn't fit with my "theme" but he knows it.

Wish I could have gotten a picture of them earlier. I was sitting in a chair in the living room with Lightning behind me leaning on my back, Rain at my feet and back to back with Flurry. Dru came climbing up wiggling and licking and as he settled down he kind of slid down to rest on Flurry and they all had a nap like that. Of course I was in the middle of it all so I couldn't take a picture.

Ah but you see the Anatolians are not mine. They live at the farm/rescue Dru came from. It's a working sheep farm and they are the livestock guardians there. I didn't have Dru when he was that tiny, I just got him and he's 5 months now. I took my 2 geese to winter down there on Saturday and brought Dru home then. Actually, my geese might stay there permanently, not sure yet. They're both Chinese ganders and they're keeping a Toulouse goose company since she lost her mate a while back. Maybe with some luck there will be some little goslings come springtime and I can bring some of them back home. My geese were supposed to be for working the dogs (practicing their herding skills) but the geese weren't raised around dogs so they get a bit upset by them. Down there they are in a place where the dogs can't bother them. If I were to bring some goslings home and raise them here they'd grow up used to the dogs like my chickens and turkeys and they wouldn't be bothered much by the dogs.
