Kiya
I am posting this on behalf of one of my best friends. She recently moved for a job from Canada to Palau and had to leave her yellow lab, Jada in our care while she is gone for 2 years. It was very hard for her and luck have it, she had a puppy, Kiya come into her life the first month she was on the island.
Kiya was an abandoned pup that my friend took into her home and was finding that although she was not a replacement for Jada, it helped her get over how much she was missing her blonde baby back home. Three nights ago she was out jogging with Kiya and Kiya was hit by a car. She left Kiya with a friend and ran to get the island vet. By the time they returned Kiya was already gone. Being alone and so far from home definitely make this even harder on her. Kiya had a best friend GSD puppy that lived next door. Sadly, the GSD doesn't get much attention from her family and Kiya was her only real companion. They would spend the day together everyday. They even went into to be spayed together last weekend and just lay on top of each other the whole car ride there. Now my friend wakes up each morning and the GSD puppy is sitting on her doorstep and when she opens the door, the pup looks inside and whines...she is still there when she returns home from work. The other day my friend found the puppy with an old shoe lying on the spot where she buried Kiya. It is such a heartbreaking story and I feel so awful for her and she is so far away...I just had to share this with you guys.... |

What a heartbreaking story! My heart goes out to your friend! I hope she finds peace that she did what she could for this darling little one! I realise you said that the GSD is not her dog but could it be? If it sits on her doorstep it is obviously loose? where are the owners of the GSD??
Her little rescue will be waiting at the Rainbow Bridge!! Cindy

Oh man... that's just too sad. It's amazing how they know. Is there a chance that your friend can adopt this GSD?

I was going to suggest it to her....but I am not sure.
Dog ownership is very different around there from what she tells me....dogs just run freely around many of the locals don't even treat their dogs as "part of the family" as we do here. It's tough to comprehend...and I don't have all the details...but from the sounds of it that is just the culture there. Part of the reason she wasn't comfortable bringing Jada over there. I think she should take the sad puppy in though.... |
