Had a good visit with Sam today. He and I went running around on the grass. He was trying to understand me being attached to him with a long lead yet he good gallop along if he wanted to. His rust coloring is starting to show through on his legs now. On Tuesday, we had a long discussion about Sam and where to go from here. Sam has improved about 50% since his arrival last Friday. He's perky, comfortable and healing nicely. He no longer reeks. He still has a subtle smell but that will dissipate as he heals. Because of his marked improvement, we have not had to shave him. He will have a bath or two however to help his skin heal. It was decided at this time to not do the biopsy as the anesthetic with Sam's weight would really set him back. It will be done if he slides a few percentage backwards as it will mean that his body is working against him again. If he continues to go forward through the beginning of next week, then Sam will be ready to come in to foster and start living in a house with other friends to play with and family to help him heal further. A friend took some photos so as soon as they are sent I'll post them as Sam's facial swelling has gone down a fair bit and his redness has turned to a healthy pink. Sam met a little berner baby today and he was very gentle with him, bending over to just give him a tiny kiss. Without counting our chickens or jinxing anything, we are cautiously optimistic for Sam.

As promised, new photos of the big goof! You can see his brown is starting to show now! He wouldn't stop rolling in the grass and having fun long enough to get upright pictures, lol.

I thought his eyes look brighter and I detect a smile on that cute face. I hope Sams progress continues because he is looking 1000% better. Big hug for him and you BMD. Hopefully he will not need the biopsy. Amazing what the love and tlc and of course the vets can do. This made my day seeing those pics of our Sam I think he is our new Hank. Hank

Don't the eyes just say it all: he's come out of his shell, now that the weight of all that suffering has been lifted. You really are his angels.

Visited Sam again this morning as the office will be shut for the weekend, staff on but not as much activity. He started woofing when he heard my voice so he now knows who I am. He still has one patch on his side that is oozing a bit but once it's dried out they are going to give him a good medicated bath so that the skin will rejuventate. Right now he shakes and the flakes fly in the sunshine, we are referring to it as fairy dust . His appetite is great and of course, all the staff adore him. Thanks for the well wishes for Sam, I told him he has a cheering squad!

Glad to hear Sam is progressing so well BMD. We have a Berner in our household, and as many have said, their eyes say it all. While I have had Goldens for 22 years and love them so much, I have never seen a breed that speaks thru their eyes like Berners do. Wishing all the best for Sam's recovery.
