Thank you all for the warm welcome!
My pet's name is Maki, and he is a very friendly male cat.
I will soon post some pictures

Welcome Andrea, hope you enjoy the board and we look forward to seeing pics of your Maki. What part of Italy are you from - are you still living there or literally from there?? My DH is from Celano.

Hi Dog Dancer,
I actually am Italian and currently living in Milan.
But I lived in Kingston, ON for a while, so Canada occupies a special place in my heart.

And this is Maki, my little lion:

I actually wanted to preview the previous post, not to send it, but I clicked on the wrong button.
however, I wanted to ask you what's the meaning of DH? I still am kind of weak on all the acronyms you have in English.
Thanks!

DH = Dear Husband

Andrea, I see the DH question is covered (Tks Hazel). Dear Husband is Italian.

Maki is so sweet, he looks almost identical to my long gone Whiskers (aka Big Red). Wiskers lived to 18 so with luck you're in for a long ride with Maki!.

Thank you for the compliments and the explanation, I would have never guessed that DH was Dear Husband . Where in Italy is he from?

I'm also happy to learn about the long life of Whiskers, as Maki is already 10 yo and I gotta admit sometimes I start worrying a little, although it looks really healthy and happy.

Andrea, DH is from Celano a little town in the Abbruzzo region.

It's hard not to worry about our pets as they get old. I would suggest, if you haven't already done it, have your pet get a geriatric blood panel done at the vets while he's still in good health. It will give your vet a base line place to start if or when Maki does feel under the weather and they do blood work. A "normal" panel will let them compare as your pet ages where things may be going wrong. I sure do miss Whiskers and he's been gone a good 14 years now.

thank you for the advice, I'll definitely ask my vet about it.

I've never been to Abruzzo, but I've heardt it's a beautiful region. did you ever come to visit it?

No sadly I have not been there. Hubby went back two summers ago, but with a very senior dog with severe seperation anxiety and a second dog also it wasn't possible for me to go. Maybe one day.
