looking for a dog that will be suitable for us

Hi,
My husband and I are currently looking for a dog breed that would be suitable for our lifestyle.
We live in an apartment and I am home most of the time.
We do not want a big dog, small to medium would be good.
We are also looking for a good tempered dog that is not hyper or yappy.
Any suggestions of breeds that you could help us with would be appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

I'll give you the same speach I do to everyone who asks

If you look at rescue dogs , if you look at their description , it won't matter as much the breed you get. You will be able to find out how the dog is , and the rescue will be able to tell you if the dog is a right match for your family and your lifestyle. If you would like to take a look : www.petfinder.com lots of rescues and humane societies list their dogs on this website.

I'd suggest checking out the CKC or AKC for breed stats. You can browse many different breeds and read about characteristics. this may help you narrow your search and then we could provide more helpful info.

I'd also like to suggest that there are so many mixed breeds that are small-med, not hyper or yappy, available at local shelters/rescues. Checking your own local shelter may be a good starting point.

when looking for a breed, other things to consider are your lifestyle... do you work long hours? is your schedule flexible? are you willing to train and/or attend classes with your dog? looking for short, med, long hair? high maintainance or virtually no grooming needs? allergies to consider? where do you live, city, country? places to walk, run, and play w/ the dog? what are your local laws regarding breed bans? have you had dogs before or is this your first? do you have other pets? children? looking for a puppy or an older dog? this list of questions could REALLY go on forever.
