Collar Warning
I saw this warning on another dog forum. Thought I would post it incase any one uses these collars on their pets:
From Doctordog.com I have a sweet mutt. We have a metal collar on her--not the spiked kind or anything, but the type that adjusts and leaves a little extra now and then--which we felt would give her more freedom. Twice now it has nearly killed her. The first time, we thought it was a freak accident. It happened again tonight and obviously we won't be putting tha collar back on. She was lying on our back porch and when she tried to stand, her tags had gotten caught in the cracks of the wooden deck that most decks have. The slight extra length hung down, the tags went straight through, then twisted. Our deck is high off the ground and we couldn't reach it from below to retwist it right. We had to hold her head down so she could breathe while she was panicking, and cut the collar off with a wire cutter. The sounds she made were terrible. I thank God we were all home--one person couldn't have saved her. AND that we were outside with her--she couldn't even bark until we held her down and stopped her from choking herself. This is a risk that may not come up a lot, but is dangerous. I don't often look at pet sites, so if any of you frequent others, please post this there. I'm sure there are other, similar surfaces that run this risk. It could save a life! Thank you! |

IT should have been obvious the first time it happened! If this is a choke collar, Tags shouldnt be worn on the live end in the first place, meaning that the end of the collar that the collar passes through is the end you should put the tags on, the end that stays closest to the dog, not the end that you connect the leash too. |
