Black spots on my cat's lip?
I just noticed the other day that my cat has some small dark spots on his lips. At first I thought it was just food but I can't wipe them away. They are really tiny spots though. Any ideas what this could be?
Thanks! |

one possibility is acne, my guys get it on their chins and around their lips....always best to have a vet check it out to make sure though.

Are you using plastic bowl? This can aggravate this feline acne condition. Use a flate ceramic plate instead if you are.

Thanks so much for the info. I was reading that website and that sounds exactly like what he has.
We feed him using a plastic ball which he has to roll around to get the food out (b/c he is prone to scarfing down his food and then throwing it back up). Any ideas as to how to slow down his eating b/c I really don't want to use the plastic ball after I read through the website b/c it will only irritate the problem. Thanks! |

Feed wet food instead. Scarf-n-barf tends to be more associated with kibble because the cat eats a bunch, it expands in the stomach when it hits moisture, and voila! you've got regurgitated food all over your lovely carpet. If it still happens with wet food, you can spread it around thinly on a large plate so it takes the cat longer to eat it.

You can also try bowls made especially to slow down the eating.
These are advertised for dogs, but I'm sure using them with a kitty shouldn't be too much of a problem. Laladoggy I've seen other kinds too so you can always do a search.

My cat actually does really well with his food (as long as he eats it slower). As soon as we got the special food ball he stopped throwing up completely. We feed him a good quality food: Orijen
I will definitely look into the special bowls though that get them to eat slower. |
