14 Year old cat losing weight and peeing everywhere but her litter.

Hello there,

The past few days i noticed my 14 year old cat has been losing weight and drinking more then normal but she is still pretty active and eats fine. The weird thing she is doing is peeing outside her litter box and now in the beds and on the floors as well. I am thinking three different things in my head. Diabetes, Urine infection or my parents said the bad one Kidney failure. I'm hoping that that's not the case. Has anyone else had a cat that had this happen to and if so what was the outcome? If she gets any worse within the next day or so I will have to bring her to the vet. I'm going to test her blood sugars in the mean time to see if Diabetes is a factor

Thank you for your help in advance

Jackie&Charles

Please take her to the vet today, for a full lab work up with a T4 test and a urinalysis. She's not going to magically get better within the next 24 hrs, and the longer you delay, the more serious the potential consequences. If she does have diabetes, she's at risk of developing ketoacidosis, which can kill quickly or at least be very expensive to treat. Hyperthyroidism and renal insufficiency are also possibilities, but only a vet can give you a diagnosis. All 3 conditions are very treatable and do not mean a death sentence for your girl.

Good luck, and do let us know what the vet says.

Thanks SCM. I tried posting an answer here a while ago and Pets wasn't cooperating.
