HELP, need to find home for escape dog
Please help. Any advice as to who to contact, where to post or anyone who could help is genuinely appreciated!
We adopted a puppy from the local rescue shelter 5 years ago. At the time we were not married and both had regular jobs. Mine paid for Indigo's treats, toys and everything he could want. He suffered from severe separation anxiety and destroyed almost everything we owned. We got a companion for him, which didnt do much good. We took him to the vet for help and she said he needs a specialist because he has so many mental issues to deal with. Training helped and he LOVES to be worked. He really needs lots of attention and a purpose to his day. He would love being a working dog, but Im not sure who would want or be able to use him. He has mellowed out over time but still continuously runs away. No matter what our attempts. Our lives have changed, we now have our own business which leaves no social time let alone time for working or addressing our dogs needs. We had a son a year ago and since then its been very difficult. The neighbors are very upset at his contiual escaping, as he charges and growls at them, locking them in their garages, little kids playing in the street are scared and we live 2 blocks from a school. I just cant handle it. I have 2 other dogs and am trying to find homes for another so we just have one. My son gets trampled and knocked over and I cant leave my son alone to find my dog and wash the cat poop off of him on a daily basis. I need help. I think he would be happier if he had a purpose in life. Living on a large piece of land and chasing things. Constant training, not for fixing but for his happiness. Please help. Thank you. Tasha |

Why don't you keep the dog inside so he can't escape? And how about moving the cat litter box so you don't have to wash cat poop off your child?

If you have an agressive dog that scares people, how do you expect anyone to want him? Have you put out an ad? Is he fixed? Most of the time, male dogs who are not neutered, tend to act agressive and run away. They also tend to be harder to control. If he is fixed, I would suggest taking out an ad and charging an adoption fee for him. That way you know the new owner is serious about wanting him because he isn't free. |

What kind of dog is this, and how high is the fence that he can continually escape it?

You can try running a hotwire around the edges of the fence, or make the fence higher. There's lots of ways to keep your dogs on your property. Your dog has cat poop on him? From where - in the house? You need to keep the litterbox away from the dog. |

There's some very good info in this thread (below) about correcting the jumping over the fence aspect part of your problem. Maybe something worth trying

Who's covered in cat poo? Your son? or the dog? What about the ohter dog you're trying to re-home? How many cats do you have? What kind of dog is this? How high is your fence? Does your dog run away from your yard, or does he run away from the house when you open the door? Is he aggressive with your son, or just with people he doesn't know? Should he be re-homed in a place that has children or other pets?? A little more info might help clarify, and help us help you better!

The Family Dog
The family's dog was bought for a guard, Chained to a post in a chilly backyard, Housed in a shed that was airless and dark, And every few weeks had a run in the park. When boredom set in with no fun and no work, One day it broke loose and went quietly berserk. Pa couldn't fathom just why it went wild, As it flattened his wife and then bit his child. The police were called in to sort out the mess, And the whole sorry tale was revealed by the press, The Rescue Society was really annoyed, So, the dog was re-homed - and the owners destroyed.
