dbg,I am glad Raggs liked the shirt and it fit right,it must be more comfortable for him,not rubbing the tumor on the floor.
I too think of the two of you a lot,it must be very difficult when bad days happen, but elating when he bounces back. Raggs still has a lot of spirit in him, wants to make mom feel better,I am sure

That's great that the shirt works and that he likes it! And I'll bet he's looking all dapper dressed in it, too! Good luck with the pics! Really looking forward to them.

I am so, so happy that the Thundershirt is helping Raggs. Cassie uses hers for thunder fear issues, I can see the calming affects of it. The shirts seem to be well-made and I know Cassidy doesn't mind wearing it.
I hope the shirt is comfortable for Raggs. Sending my best to you both. |

Sorry I still haven't got the pics of him. The reason I haven't been able to do anything is I sprained my knee and ankle last week and because I am disabled it makes it difficult to get around. I definitely will post them asap. Raggs is still doing well but I had to reduce the amount of time he wears the Thundershirt because he got hot in it. So he hasn't been wearing it most of the weekend and I hopefully will be able to get it back on him today. I left it on the edge of the sofa and he keeps going to it and poking it with his nose so he obviously still likes it. I was concerned that after he got so hot he might not want to wear it again.
He is still holding his own today, gums are still pale but he seems happy, though not that energetic. Not sure if I've mentioned this before but when he has these episodes that I think are small bleeds, the tumour hangs down more from his belly. Then after several days, it seems to shrink a bit and be closer to his abdomen when he's standing. The tumour also appears more bruised while it's hanging down, but that may be just my imagination. This is where the Thundershirt comes in handy. Thanks everyone for continuing to send good vibes and think about Raggs and I I have been tempted to start a new thread instead of continuing with this one but I thought for new people reading the thread there wouldn't be any history in it. I hope that someone may benefit from my experience with his diet as the only treatment for his tumour, whether it is benign or malignant and the things I've done, some that have worked and others that haven't.

I'm glad he likes his shirt so much and that it seems to help when he can wear it. Makes you kind of wish for winter to come back so he wouldn't be so hot.
Sorry to hear about your knee and ankle! You really didn't need anything else on your plate! Sending for both of you!

Just thought I should let you all know that Raggs is recovering after his last 'bleed'. His gums are still quite pale but he's active and wondering why I'm sitting in bed with my foot up instead of watching TV with him. The first couple of days he wouldn;t come in the room with me so I thiink when his previous owner was sick he was kept out. He finally agreed to come in when I bribed him with treats. LOL I'll be posting those pics I keep promising as soon as I can get his Thundershirt back on him Thanks again for continuing to send us good vibes

I am so happy Raggs is still doing ok. Sorry you hurt yourself. That sucks! I've been wracking my brain trying to figure out something that would be cooler for Raggs to wear. The weather is getting hot (someday). I'd hate to see that warrior suffering more than he should be with a hot vest.
Raggs - you rock little man. Momma's pretty neat herself!!

Finally took a couple of pics of him wearing his Thundershirt. Unfortunately he was really tired and not particularly co-operative. He still likes it but was happy to have me take it off last night to allow his skin to breathe and keep him from getting too hot. Here they are: The third pic was taken about a half hour after we'd put it on him and shows his standard pouting position.

That looks like a good fit! Does it cover the tumor well enough?
Lookin' good, Raggs!!!

thanks hazel. it slides around unfortunately because it is very stretchy and at times the tumour is below it but after he's been up moving around the tumour is often above it and it is covering the part we don't want covered

Aw, that's kind of a bummer. Is there any way you can pin it to work better?

I am trying to figure out a way to keep it more in place. The big problem now is that he's having trouble staying on his feet so it's hard to move it around and get the fit right. Right now he isn't wearing it but I may try to put it on him later if he will stand while I work with it. Once I get more liver into him, he may have more strength to stand

I'm wondering if a child-sized t-shirt (cotton/spandex blend) might do the trick. Or a leg of large size leggings ("tights" I think they're also called).

Thanks LP for the suggestions. I have a T-shirt that will work after I downsize it. I was also thinking of a tube top or leggings but they will probably have the same problem of sliding around. I think the trick with the Thundershirt is to get the part that goes around his neck on firmly and properly. Unfortunately he wasn't co-operating yesterday to be able to get it on snuggly around his neck. I tried today but so far all he's wanted to do is sleep..so maybe later.

Raggs looks handsome in his Thundershirt. I know you said you were having problems getting him to stand to put the jacket on, so that is probably the problem. Cassidy's shirt is a very snug fit. I actually go back to check it and make sure it isn't too tight. I can also see this being very hot after a while. We had a storm roll through at bedtime last night (second of the evening), and I put the shirt on Cass and let her sleep in it. But, I keep the bedroom very cool with a window AC unit and an accessible water bowl. I can tell you she was happy to have it taken off this morning.
I like the Thundershirt and see improvements, but not miracles with Cassie's fears. I am concerned about the amount of hair getting in the velcro. My dog has very long hair on her lower body where the velcro wraps around the waist and neck. In my case, it is worth the purchase, but I do wish it was "the miracle cure." |

Raggs is still showing that he's very tired and yesterday I noticed that the tumour looks very dark purple over almost all of the skin so I guess he's had another 'bleed'. However, when I feed him, the first thing he takes out of his dish to eat is his chunks of liver. so he either knows it is helping or likes the taste of it better. His hind end is quite weak as well but he's moving around the house without a problem, it's when he has to go outside that the problem occurs and his back legs seem to collapse under him. I hate to see him like this but he is still arguing with the cats and wants his treats, so I guess he isn't as bad as he has been in the past .
It was hot in the house yesterday, though cool outside but I couldn't get the house to cool down. But this morning it is cool and the first thing I did was put his Thundershirt on him and he seems happy to have it on. I am not pulling it tight around his belly because I think the tumour may be a bit painful when it is compressed. The reason I think that is he tends to lie on his side more than he used to. Keeping my fingers crossed that he isn't starting into a downhill slide. @Scottiedog yes he does look good in his Thundershirt and I think if I keep it off him when the house is hot, he may like it more. @chico2 he does look a little sad in those pics but I got the feeling from his posturing that he was mad at me, rather than sad. How dare I put this 'thing' on him when it's already hot in the house. @Maxalisa thanks for the encouragement, Raggs is my inspiration for what love can do when all else fails Thanks again everyone

I'm glad Raggs is enjoying his liver more. Always a bonus when the kids eat what's good for them!
Nice to hear he's still sassing the cats, too! I hope you get many more months with him! You both certainly deserve it!

I haven't posted because he has basically been pretty well recently. He did have another episode where his gums became really pale about 2 weeks ago but now seems to be recovering again. He also seems to be hungrier than he has in a long time. He also has more energy and been ruling the cats for the last few days LOL. Just thought I'd post the good news. He's done some funny things recently too, took himself for a walk one night to the corner and back when someone left the gate open. At least he knew to come back So he's holding his own for now and I keep my fingers crossed that things will continue that way.

New odd behaviour
Raggs has started something rather odd IMHO. I have still been putting out pee pads for him because since he was at Petsmart his back end has been weaker and I would rather he used the pads than fall on the stairs. He has been using them off and on and being fairly accurate when he does use them. He is also using them to poop on if he can't make it outside in time. He has had diarrhea off and on whether it's his food or his system, I have no idea.
So the other day he started wandering back and forth from the living room to the bedroom and back and I asked him if he needed to go out. No response. Then he went to the door and lay down so I asked him again if he had to go out with no response. Usually he'll whine or bark depending on how badly he has to go. All of a sudden he stood up and ran over to one of the pee pads. stood over it and peed, then he went back to the door and whined to go out. So my son let him out. I asked him to watch to see what he did out there because he had just finished peeing and all Raggs did was stand there at the door, so my son let him in again. Raggs then went to lie down. So I wondered what the heck he was doing. He had already pooped on oneof the pads about an hour before this and didn't need to pee. So I started wondering whether the cancer has gone to his brain and he's confused. This whole thing has happened a couple more times since then. Does anyone have any ideas why he's doing this? confused_ I just hope my thinking isn't right. He seems normal in every other ways. It was really hot and humid out that day too when this started but it's still happening now that it's cooler .The only other thing I could think of was he's afraid to fall on the stairs, but then he decides to go out anyway shrug_ Any ideas???
