Six-Month-Old Puppy Found Shivering Under Car
Wednesday April 1, 2009
CityNews.ca Staff
Anyone who's ever lost a pet knows how upsetting it can be. But a Toronto man may have helped one dog owner find a missing puppy.

The good Samaritan found the shivering and terrified six-month-old Labrador mix under a car Wednesday morning. He called police, who then called Animal Services.

"It's probably been on the run all night - broke away from its home," revealed Pat Piercy of Animal Services. "Chances are we will find an owner. Possibly he was hit by a car. We'll have him examined by a vet, give him some TLC, get him into the shelter, and we'll take it from there."

At least he is safe now.

Such a beautiful little pup.

Poor baby.. Ok so my next thought is 'brindle'. Hopefully the Ontario government will see that brindle does not mean breed ban!

If anyone has knowledge as to where this dog is being held and can be this pups mentor, I will take this dog into Quebec if owner does not appear or they consider banned. Ok so I am jumping the gun...think positive right?

More to the story

It's too bad but it looks like the pup may not be so friendly. There's more to the story at: http://onebarkatatime.blogspot.com/

I don't understand why they made this puppy into a pubic display, plastering it on the news with cameras in its face. It's obviously terrified, and likely under socialized. How could animal control allow the news to get so close and scare the dog more? Trying to feed it while its there? The fact that it refused food is a huge red flag of high stress levels. They should have picked him up immediately to not prolong its stress levels by making it a spectacle.
Hopefully the dog is found adoptable but at this moment they have already put unneeded stress and now preemptive expectations on a animal which will likely need a lot of time and work.

Poor little guy. I think they should just give him some vet care and let him rest alone for a few days. He's still a puppy so even if he's not socialized there's hope for him.

He sure is adorable.

Of course the animal is terrified, what pup wouldn't be?????? Strangers all around, traffic driving by.

Exactly how I feel, Cell, this pup should have been quietly picked up, brought to a vet and then given some quiet time to rest.

I think they do it for the shock factor. I understand what you are both saying but at the same time this serves a 'purpose' if you will entertain the thought. The purpose - we are AWARE. We see the horror which is captured. This way it desensitizes the public.

I am not saying it is ok but I am saying that it made the news and people are touched.

I am more responding to the blog that was linked by Margo. However, I do not think it was in the best interest of the pup to keep him/her there long enough for the media to show up.

I think I agree with BenMax. It wouldn't have been much of a story if they just showed a happy puppy. I mean stray dogs are brought into pounds all the time.

No, it isn't my blog (Diamondsmum) but I do read it quite often.

The pup is listed as a Cane Corso Mix and is at their South Shelter, which is probably the best out of the 4 that Toronto Animal Services has.

They are showing another pic of him and he looks scared .

I tried to cut and paste the pic, but it didn't work for me

They mention in the blog that he's aggressive and bites, but I hope the shelter knows,it's probably fear-aggression,who knows what he's been through, poor pup
It's a big nasty world to him.
They also mention a siblingwhere on earth did they come from
Cane Corsos(sp?)do not have a good reputation,I think these pups days are numbered

Cane Corsos are rare. They can be a handful but in the right hands they are great dogs. It is normal that he is a little snappy - but it's all workable. I hope that if he cannot be adopted, they will source out a rescue group to help.

If this pup goes down - I hope they do a follow up media press...high profile dog/story will more than likely be saved.

BenMax,by bad reputation,I mean the horrible incident in New York(I think it was)where 2 Cane Corsos killed a young woman,if I am not mistaken.
To me,there are no vicious pups at all, people make them so
Hopefully, like you say, with the media involved this pup is safe
