Question:

I would like to know what vitamins my cat may need at winter time and where I can get them. I could not find anything in a pet store.

Answer:

When fed a good balanced diet such as those found at your veterinarian there is no need to supplement your animal's diet with vitamins. Providing additional vitamins can actually cause imbalances and medical problems.

Animals that have medical problems sometimes require and benefit from vitamin supplements. However, these are usually prescribed or recommended by your veterinarian.

The winter season can be harsh on our pets. Supplementing their diet with essential fatty acids (high in Linolenic Acid and Linoleic Acid) will help relieve the dry itchy skin and dull hair coat as well as stimulate the immune system during the harsh cold winter days. Vegetable oils such as canola oil, safflower oil, soybean oil, butter and fish oils are high in these fatty acids. They can be added to the food. (1 tsp./day for dogs and cats) Cats do have a preference for the fish oils!

Hope this helps.
