Exclamation 3 year old dog with hip dysplasia

Hi! We own a 3 year old cocker spaniel dog with has been diagnosed three days ago with hip dysplasia. We're very worried because the veterinarian told us that the only solution is to remove the head of the femur within the next three months.

We take the dog to the vet because he seemed to have a lot of pain in a leg, we presume that after jumping down the bed that morning. Before, in the last months we've see him moaning when getting up, but it was minor compared to the pain he was suffering when we take him to the vet.

We're afraid cos we didn't know anything related to the disease and to us he's like another brother. We don't know if there is an alternative to the femur head removal, and if it is the only solution we would like to know if he will be later able to run and jump like he does often.

He's now recovered well, he seems to have no pain, but he looks to be afraid of forcing the leg to much. He has stopped playing and sleeps a lot, but when he sees a cat he runs and jumps and we can't stop him. We're very wrried and afraid to what the future of our dog will be.

Hoping to recieve an answer soon,

the Villarroel Family

Exclamation ...

I thought the forum would give a fast response, but anyway, the dog is feeling alright by now with no signs of pain. Hope someone can tell is there is a chance for him to complete recover (with no need of a operation), since that a topic that worries us every day.
