Due to new developements , Ben is still up for adoption. We have decided that Ben deserved better , a family that would be excited and eager about adopting him , not people who think they're doing US a favor . Ben deserves more than that, Ben deserves as much as a younger dog would. So that's it folks , still looking for a wonderful family for this wonderful boy

I think Molly is trying to hint that she'd like Ben to come live with us but she's having trouble convincing me that we can deal with two dogs... Besides we have to give someone else a chance to adopt a "Frenchy" dog

Frenchy, yes especially Rocky,he would maul any dog coming in to HIS house
A question,do most older large dogs end up with hip/leg surgery,it seems so common in this Forum, especially with Goldens:sad:

Some of them yes. But I do know lots of them who never needed surgery. My sister has 2 goldens, one needed surgery on both hind legs , the other dog is ok.
My dogs are older rescues , seeing how neglected they were when I adopted them , it would be a surprise to me to know they had surgery. Daisy didn't have problems , Bailey is ok too. Sam , my guess is lack of exercise in his past life and too much food (probably crappy one) Ben , this is more than just lack of exercise , it really looks like he was tied up somewhere on a very short rope , his hind legs are tiny and like jello. But his muscles are coming back , he doesn't need my help anymore to get back up or to get up the few stairs in my house.

Thank's Frenchy,it just seems sooo many have to have surgery,a Newfie/LabX up the street from me just had his hip-surgery,it seems like such a terrible ordeal, both for the pup and the owner, but of course if it's needed, there is no other choice.
Poor Ben,imagine someone tying up this beautiful dog,or any dog for that matter,a long lead is probably ok,but on a short leash,so sad...Ben is happy now though, could not be in a better place

Just a reminder on how cute Ben is , I have better doggy beds than this one (it's an old one + a comforter on top) but he likes it better than the other ones ! and now that I'm using the fireplace again , he seems to like being near it.

The ideal home for Ben would be retired people who likes to take small walks outside. And even if they have slippery floors , they can always buy runners

Oh and his fur is growing back ...

Oh Chico2, you with an older goldie....now that's a good match.
Isn't it Chico who flips out about other animals though? Maybe he really likes dogs....you should try bringing an older dog in the house and see how your kitties react. They may surprise you. My cats always liked my older dogs. It's the puppies they can't stand.

clm,no,it's Rocky and he flips right at me,I have many battlescars to prove it
We are just too comfortable and old(er) now to upset the applecart,a little bit of making Bailey happy every day,is probably all we can handle

We never ever ship dogs. But for the right family (the right one) we MAY arrange transport IF we find people that we know and trust who would..... but it's really not an ideal situation.

By ship, I meant transport...sorry, wrong use of words, ok, was just wondering. My inlaws are retired and dog lovers, and when they came to Calgary for 2 weeks, they fell in love with Dazy and the breed. We had talked to them about adopting a senior golden, one with a bit less energy then Dazy. Thought I'd ask before I asked them if they were interested.

Good luck to you and Ben!!!

Is there any chance he could ever regain enough muscle tone to do stairs?

My mom would be perfect with a senior golden, she's home all day long and has a large yard. I mentioned it to her a while back, showed her some of the stories on here, she fell in love. Her house has stairs though, lots of them:sad:.

Maybe , but carpeted stairs only. He is scared of them , he is scared on slippery floors. I think his past life might no had been too good. I don't think he was abused , but I do believe he must had been pushed around because he was too slow or unsteady , making him fall. When he's outside , I can tell he feels so much better ! We never know what the future holds for him
