Halti or Gentle Leaders?

I heard from a very experienced obedience instructor that Haltis and Gentle Leaders can cause neck problems. Is this true?

It's a little controvertial some think yes some think not, as with some vets.

It would be interesting to know what a animal chiropractor would say!

If you tug on the leader a lot or put it on incorrectly I"m sure it would amount to uncomfortable neck strain. Only makes sense huh? However if used correctly, the dog learns NOT to pull therefore it shouldn't pose much of a problem.

Where I can see it doing damage is if its' used incorrectly ...I actually seen an idiot tie his dog up outside with a GL on! smh

I've used one on Bob, but we're moving away from it now just for something different. Plus, I'm in dire need of some arm workouts.

As for the Halti, I think it depends on how you use it. Bob will simply not pull when he has it on, so there's minimal pressure on his neck. However, you must be gentle with any correction. That's not hard because it certainly doesn't take much. I saw one guy one day using one and he was reefing on the poor dogs head like a madman. I wanted to give his neck a little twist and ask him if he thought it would be wrong for him to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life or his dog ending up getting put down for a serious neck injury.
