Performatrin Ultra.. Ingredient list..

I have been feeding the "Chicken and Brown Rice" to my Saint for the past 4 or so months. This is the ONLY food we can feed Bubba that does not cause loose stool and horrible gas.

When I first picked up the bag and looked at the ingredients I was a tad taken back since it's quite a long list.

BUT It contains the Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex (source of Vitamin K activity) which is a controversial ingredient. And the 'egg product' I wasn't too pleased with either but this is what they say about it....

Eggs
All-natural egg yolks and whites provide an excellent balance of the essential amino acids required for growth and muscle development. They are also good sources of fat energy and naturally occurring vitamin E. The Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids in eggs are associated with the maintenance of a healthy skin and coat. To satisfy labeling laws, this ingredient is listed on the bag as "Dried Egg Product" to confirm that no shells are included.

Here's their "what the ingredients are page" http://www.performatrinultra.com/dog/benefits.htm

I'm somewhat familar with dog food ingredients and labels. But noone can pick apart a food like Prin. So that's basically what I'm after.. for everyone to pick it apart and give me your honest opinion.

Here's the ingredient list...

I'm feeding my guys the lamb and rice puppy version of Performatrin Ultra and they seem to be flourishing. I, too, am interested in what food guru Prin has to say. It looked pretty good to me, but I'm new at the label deciphering.

I know Prin is the food guru but IMO chicken meal should be first then chicken and there`s lots of grains. I also don`t like the menhaden fish meal or the menadione sodium bisulfate either.

A lot of grains is right. Everything before the first fat makes up the bulk of the food so dividing the food up into so many ingredients means less of each one:
Chicken
Chicken Meal
Whole Brown Rice
Whole Barley
Whole Rice
Oatmeal
Whole Rye
Menhaden Fish Meal
Sunflower Oil
Plus the first chicken gets bumped to the bottom after cooking, so it barely counts.

We ruled out illness/parasites with Bubba, so it basically came down to a sensitive tummy. But I picked this food because it has alot of fibre sources both soluble and insoluble that seem to help with firming up his stool. I avoid beet pulp or any stool hardeners like the plague. lol

But yeah it is kinda grainy. I wish he wasn't so darn sensitive. I add the Performatrin canned food, so that helps that he's getting a little extra.

If he needs the fiber, then let him have it. At the end of the day, you have to feed anything you find that Bubba will digest. (To me, that takes priority over food quality).

I have been feeding my kids this food for a while now as well. Copper always had horrible gas and quite often loose stools. Since I switched, he has been much better! I have also switched most of their treats to holistic and natural products.
Copper also had anal gland problems. They used to leak, and since the food switch, he hasn't had problems! Would this be food realted do you think??

I feed the Lamb and Rice version, both dry and canned. My dogs also flourish on it.
Good to see that others also feed Performatrin Ultra and give it a good rating. It costs a little more but they are worth it.

I feed Misty the Lamb & Brown Rice kibble and Princess is being fed the Lamb & Brown Rice Puppy kibble. Misty has been on it now for quite some time and is doing great. She has a nice shiney coat. Both Misty and Princess get the canned Performatrin once in a while mixed in as a treat.

I used to feed Misty Solid Gold, but she stopped eating it. For some reason she one day just stopped liking it and preferred the Performatrin over everything else.
