Very curious if my cat may be part NFC or MC
I know my cat is a mutt. But I was wondering if there were some way to determine if he's either part Norwegian Forest Cat or Maine Coon.
He's about 19 months old. He's approximately 17 pounds (I haven't weighed him lately). He's a total sweetie-pie, who loves to cuddle. His brother is obviously more of a orange tabby/calico mix. Mom had multiple suitors. I've attached a couple photos. One is of him alone, taken in January. The other is of my whole crew, and he's in the front of the photo, with his doggie sister and his kittie brother behind him. |

I'm no breeder or expert judge in breeds but from here he seems like a semi long hair domestic yellow/orange tabby. He's large like the breeds you mention and has the hair element. although I had a domestic short hair (called Ferdinando haha) who was so big people felt confused and surprised when they saw him I used to call him Mountain Lion Ferdinando
I must add something though NFC/MC or not your little guy is absolutely adorable very beautiful. It'd be very interesting to know if there's some sort of test to find out besides what we see with the naked eye.

I had a Maine Coon many years ago and your Zeus looks to be very slender built although he has a good weight, maybe he's bigger than he looks.
My MC had really heavy legs and paws and of course the ear-tufts. I believe the NFC,is very similar to the MC. Zeus is probably a mix,who kknows with what, but I think he's gorgeous,as is the pup and the other kitty, nice fur-crew

My goodness, you should have put a yardstick in that picture.
Have you heard of NOrm Hacking? He's a Canadian folk singer who is particularly fond of orange cats. Here is a link to his website, I think you might like it: http://www.normhacking.com/album_orangecats.html One of his songs is, "Orange Cats Make the Very Best Friends." Enjoy your new friend. |

Thanks everyone. I should mention, the photos that I posted were taken when Pepe' (not sure where you got Zeus from, Chico, but his nickname is "Mungo", as in HUMUNGO!!) and his brother (Dulce) were 14 months old. So, he's not really full grown yet. IF he has MC or NFC in him, from what I understand from online sites, he may not reach full growth until he's 4 or 5 years old! YIKES!!
I guess it doesn't really matter. He's a total mush and a real sweetheart (has to cuddle with both me and the dog (Anoush) all the time). |

Very cute furbabies indeed. I have a softspot for "reds". Your short haired boy reminds me of my long gone Whiskers (aka Big Red). Doesn't really matter what he is I'd say, if he's a lovin' boy you're extra lucky.
