I love Merrick. The only thing you'd have to be sure of is the calcium content if it's for a large breed doggy. Ideally it should be between 0.8 and 1.2% but 1.5% is apparently passable. If the info is not on their website, you can email them and you should get an answer really quick.

My bro (Mr Vegan) would have to say that Canola oil is the most genetically modified oil (along with corn oil), but I don't have a problem with GMO's of that nature yet.

Thanks Prin. I couldn't find the information on their site so I emailed them about it.

hmmm I didn't hear anything, but I'll search...

Ok, I found one message board with stuff about Merrick buying mad cows and having plastic in their canned foods. I sent Merrick an email for an explanation. I can believe that staples and plastic get into foods (I found stuff in Milk Bones, and they have crazy quality control), accidents happen. But it sucks that the guy who originally posted this didn't put any references. Where did he get the info? I can't believe him 100% without proof.

I feed a tiny bit of the canned, and I really mix it in their food, so I would see if there was anything mixed in there, and I haven't so far. Of course somebody who feeds three cans a day and goes through a thousand cans a year might find one or two cans that are not-so-great. Maybe my standards are low, but I have had that happen with sooo many human products that I'm just not that surprised.
Here's the site with the post on Merrick (further down the person who found the plastic posts too). I'll let you know what Merrick says...

Thanks for the heads up BoxerRescueMTL.

You might want to start a new thread for that question. It's not the same topic.

So I spoke to my vet and he said that it's not actually the percentage of calcium but rather that percentage in combination with the other nutrients and vitamin B!2 that I should be looking at. So, me being me, I asked if I sent him all the stuff via email would he take a look at it and give me his opinion. He was very interested in the food and wanted to be more informed of new foods available on the market. So I guess he'll get some new information and I'll get an opinion I value greatly. I'll report back what he says in case others are interested.
