Kitten eating problem???
Hi Everyone!
I have a new male kitten, (8 wks tomorrow). I have had him for one week tomorrow. He is very affectionate and very vocal when he wants my attention. The biggest problem I am having is that he's not eating like he should. I adopted him from the city's animal shelter. When I brought him home, he had fleas (a lot). I bathed him in baby shampoo (vet's suggestion) and it killed the fleas. After taking him to the Vet yesterday, I found out he has tapeworms, but he doesn't weigh enough to be medicated. He is 1.2lbs and needs to be 1.5lbs. But he won't eat a lot, only nibbles at his food and then wants to sit on my lap or shoulder. I've even tried feeding him when I leave the room, but I don't think he's eating. The shelter gave me Science Diet(dry), I've tried pro-plan kitten (moist), kitten chow (dry) and the Vet gave him 9-Lives adult tuna (moist). He ate all of that. But when I gave him the same thing, he only nibbled. Does anyone have any other suggestions??? |

If he has tapeworms, I'm surprised he's not eating more.
Try getting some Friskie's canned food - something really smelly like salmon or fish flavored. You can get a can of people salmon and pour a little of the juice over it. Mash it up so it's kind of sloppy and easy for him to eat. If it's cold, warm it up a little bit. Give him just one tablespoon at a time. Cats will often eat more eagerly if they think there isn't much food. As soon as he finishes that portion, give him another spoonful. Good luck and let us know how this baby is doing! |
