Unhappy Miniature Schnauzer hair loss allergy

My dog is a 14 year old miniature schnauzer. Last year she developed an allergy -- by inhaling -- that causes hair loss on her back hips. The vet has perscribed Vetalog Tabs at .5 mg. Is it normal for her to be so thirsty now and is there a homeopathic medicine I can give her?

Thanks

I am not a vet, but have a suggestion that you may or may not want to try. Both our older dog and cat have had this problem in the past. In fact, on our dog we were getting cortizone shots both in the spring and the fall to help with the itching. Then someone asked me what kind of food they were eating and did it contain corn or any corn by-products. Then I started reading labels and it did. I have only found one kind that does not, but switched both of these guys to it and have not had the problem with the hair loss since. It is the Nutro Senior formula. (It has been nearly 2 years, so there maybe another food out there by now.) This takes nearly a month to be noticeable, but was the answer to our problem and our dog has not had a cortizone shot since. Good Luck!

Thanks so much for your reply. At this point I am willing to try anything because I know how uncomfortable she must be. Where did you find that particular brand of dog food?

Again, thanks for your concern.

Any pet store. The ones around home that I get it at are Petsmart or Complete Petmart. Hope it works for you!
