Outside Not Going Well
Well thks to all who have helped me thus far I appreciate it! We had the pup to the vet and it seems the little guy is farther along than what we were told he 10-12 weeks, good and healthy though! The issue we are having now is that were trying to train him to go outside. My wife and i take him out often throughout the day and night times or after a meal or playing. But he will not go outside to eliminate, we bring one of the pee pads with us and he sniffs it but still will not go. We only keep hime outside on a leash with us for 5 mins because we are told to keep it strictly business with him, all he does though is either lie in the grass or try to eat the grass that's it. Sometimes will be back in the house and not 5 or 10 mins later he'll go either on the inside pee pad or on the kit flr. What can we do or is this just a time thing that we'll have to wait out? thks

I would start back at the beginning...he maybe is giving you a clue and your not seeing it...but I would start taking him outside every hour or two and stay out there till he pee's...praise him and even reward him...back inside...repeat over and over till he realizes its okay to go outside...
I think it is too confusing if your still using pee pads...is he crate trained?

i agree with winston about pee pads + crate.
def confusing for a pup. also, its good that you keep the visit short, but what i did for a while was take cassius outside and run around with him after he drank a lot or played. eventually a puppy will HAVE to stop and go pee. then you can reward and praise. also, after you bring him out for 5 are you putting him back in the crate? if not, you should, because he will not pee in it (shouldnt at least) then after 5 in the crate you take him back out for 5...rinse lather repeat. |

this last pup we kept was the worst....finally put a towel by the door..he would pee there everytime so we just threw the towel outside the door and he would cry to go out to his towel.
Our oldest dog we learned we had to take her out the front door....the back door was where she went out to play and didn't associate it with being taken there to go pee. Pee Pads....mine all chewed them up |
