Brushing cat teeth
I have been doing a lot of reading on this forum and lots of good cat owners seem to be brushing their cats teeth. I'd like to try but what is the best way to start?
Thank you from me and Sammy |

I picked up a cat toothbrush and toothpaste at the pet store when my cat was just a kitten. It's important to use cat toothpaste only as most of it is ingested by your kitty. In the beginning it was a bit of a challenge to brush his teeth properly as I spent most of the exercise trying to hold him down. Eventually they get used to it and don't struggle. I give mine a little squirt of hairball medicine before and after brushing so he now tolerates the session.

Hello:
I basically did the same as what Lynne did. Only difference was that I did the introduction of the toothpaste using a Q-tip before graduating to the toothbrush. I found to start, about 10 seconds on either side worked the best, due to the fact that any longer than that, the cat would start to kick up a fuss. Here's a web site that you might find of interest with a video introducing your cat to brushing over a 4 week period. There is also an article on this web site regarding brushing. The best of luck and take your time. It's money in your pocket in the long run if you can accomplish the procedure. http://www.partnersah.vet.cornell.ed...4-week-program http://www.pets.ca/cats/articles/cat-dental-care/
