Cat scratching sores
My cat (14, female, spayed, indoor, no contact with other cats) has two sores, one under the eye, one on the spine, which never heal because she tears out the scabs by scratching or licking. I've tried applying Betadyne but that makes her lick even harder. Is there anything I can apply to soothe the itch, so she stops tearing off the scabs ?

Betadine was not designed to be licked off and swallowed. I suggest you take your cat to the vet.

Betadine
The thing is, my vet is the one who originally recommended applying betadine... What about those spray-on "plasters" ?

Does your vet know what is causing the sores?
I had a cat with severe allergies, who would scratch his ears to pieces. The vet gave me Panalog cream to put on them. It soothes the itch and heals too. You can get a plastic Elizabethan collar and put it on your cat. Then put the cream on and leave the collar on the cat just until the cream is absorbed, or just hold her and keep her from scratching for that time. I have no idea what is wrong with your cat or if this would work for you. Polysporin is also very good, and is harmless if some is licked off. |

The same answer as in another post,Variton might help,my cat does not lick it off and his is on his tummy, but he has no sores, just licks off his hair and Variton makes him leave it alone and the hair grows back.
