Gentle Giants Rescue Reputation

Has anybody heard of Gentle Giants Rescue in Riverside, California? I'd like to hear of some first-hand experience, if anyone has.

Any input is great.

I tried to send you a PM and an IM but couldn't . Google Gentle Giant News...you'll find all sorts of personal experiences there.

I wouldn't recommend anybody share negative experiences here as the org. has taken others to court for libel and defamation.

I really like their website, and have been through it thoroughly. We're not ready to adopt yet, but it looks like that's who we'll probably go through. I'm not sure how PMs on here work.

:sad: Unfortunately, that's what a lot of people have thought too. Please do your research and be wary of advertising you find on the internet. Anyone can set up a lovely website.

so i talked to an young officer in the are and he said they had a good reputation as far as he knew but had never worked with them. when i came back with that site posted, he just kinda shrugged and said sometimes thats how it happens.

another friend and dane feeder said this about danes-

Never met a dog with a bigger heart. I assume your friend knows what she's getting into? A very sensitive bred that requires FIRM gentle positive training. They can be very suspicious, and have the memory of an elephant. A challenge to train unless EVERYONE in the house is on the same page. Pick a couch and prepare to give it up. Usually prefer the company of their person, they generally don't like to be alone, though they will seek quiet from loud or stressed surroundings.

They will try to be the boss. I remember the one single most important piece of advice from my puppy trainer, that I wished I had followed to the letter.... "The dog earns EVERYTHING." If ever there was a breed/person relationship that could benefit from hand feeding, this is it.

Thanks much. My fiancee and I are trying to get on the same page. Talked a little to a few breeders and such, and all are saying the same thing your friend says.

Re: the couch...that wouldn't be such a loss. The mastiff has it already, and if another couch is in order, so be it. I hate the thought of them sleeping on the floor.

Basically what we're talking here is a MASSIVE change in family dynamics at some point in the future, so I just feel I need to learn as much as possible now.

If it doesn't end up being a Dane, it will probably be a German Shephed, with which I have a lot of experience and am comfortable with. We used to show them when I was younger, tho I'm pretty fed up with show and AKC now. But the breeder we worked with was a great guy and a great trainer, and it would be fine with me to work with him again. He's open to training even if we adopt from a rescue, etc. My fiancee is less concerned with the breed than with having a companion and guard around, even though he adores mastiffs.

So....I think it'll all work out well, one way or another.

I had found the GG site awhile back, but because I live so far away (canada) there was no way I could get a dog from them. Perhaps in the end it was a good thing, but I can't help but wonder about those poor dogs subjected to that. From the videos I had seen on the site, I thought the yard looked a little mucky but nothing terrible, and did think they had a lot of dogs, but there were like a shelter. They were trying to help out dogs, right?

If there have been so many complaints on them, why has nothing been done? Why are authorities turning a blind eye to them? I don't understand but wish something would be done to help the poor animals.
