Cool Breed guessing game

I thought it's time to do the 'name that breed' game with MooShu. She doesn't get to meet all that many people, but everyone who meets her sees different breeds. We've had people ask what kind of dog she is, and we just say "brown."

She weighs approx. 50lbs and has very dainty bone structure, at least compared with the large breed dogs I'm used to. She's the silliest dog I've ever lived with, has a broad vocabulary of grunts and other sounds, and fluctuates between bursts of hyperactivity and total couch potato-ness. She has a phenominal sense of smell and she freezes in a kind of a pointer stance when something catches her attention. She's an extremely timid dog but loves the attention she gets when she gets to meet someone new.

Had to sneak these next few through the window...she's still camera-shy (flash=lightning storms) but we're working on that.

We've had her for 4 years now, so the camera desensitization process is going a little slowly

I see Weimaraner for sure. First breed I thought of. But she looks a little less streamlined and more brown than grey, so maybe some lab too?

I've always thought she had a weimer-ish air about her too, although the planes of her face aren't quite right and her ears are a bit short. The brown could most certainly be lab, although she's lighter and more reddish than most labs I see. I don't think there's a mix breed out there without some lab thrown in

My guess would be Chesapeake Bay Retriever in there somewhere as the coloring is pretty close to those I've seen.

I'm jumping on the "pointer train"
Pointer was the first thing I saw when I saw the first pic, and saw it more and more as they went on (if you want to add some more pics...... please do )

When I saw that first picture, I though pointer too. I also thought maybe some dobie mix as well (red dobie? x chocolate lab or pointer x dobie).

This couple we are friends with had a vizsla once, and they swear she has that in her background. It just seems so unlikely to me though because that is a very very rare breed around these parts, let alone to have taken part in an 'oops' breeding.

Yup. To quote myself: She has a phenominal sense of smell and she freezes in a kind of a pointer stance when something catches her attention.
I don't have any pics of her doing it though--must be about the only thing I haven't taken a picture of.

I didn't even realize they could be pure liver-colored. The liver and white with spots are pretty common in this area and they're the only ones I'm familiar with. Well, knowing that, now I think she looks more like one!

When we adopted her from the shelter, she was "Nutmeg" the dobie cross. She was a stray, so they didn't know anything about her background.

Are you kidding?

This is the couch potato side showing: half asleep on her feet

THis is one of my new favorites. This pose is her "How could you POSSIBLY resist giving me another treat? Look at me, I was discarded by my previous owners. I felt so unloved. Please don't make me feel unloved again!"

I think that when you can' tell by his looks, his bark will give it away... each breed has a distinctive bark and you may be able to detect the dominant breed by identifying/comparing barks...

He looks like pointer/lab

Definitely pointer in there. We have 3 liver ones at our park, and when I saw that first one, I definitely saw pointer. Maybe he's just not standard? Maybe he doesn't come from the best breeding, but he isn't mixed, just not perfect? The tails are usually docked, so I don't know what a full length tail looks like.

At least with a pointer, you have a reason for the stubbornness...

The body shots, and the last 2 close up straight on head shots remind me in every way of my Duke who to my knowledge is all American Red nosed Pit Bull Terrier.

Your side head pics don't agree though, because the snout is a tad longer, and your boy doesn't have the wobbly wips (floppy lips) that Duke has.

LOL, pitbull is a new one. Besides, she's not at all aggressive or mean
As for barking, she doesn't do much of that. When she does bark, it's a single, paranoid bark that is surprisingly deep and ferocious sounding.

I can't quite find a good shot whole body from the side, so this one will have to do. I've always thought I've seen a specific breed in her curves, but maybe it's just me...

I'd say definitely part Weimaraner with those yellow eyes. My guess would be Weimaraner/Chocolate Lab.
