Overseas

I have a HUGE dilema and I am trying to keep all of my options open. Two weeks ago, my company laid off about 3 people which led my department to be understaffed. With that said, I have been doing CRAZY overtime and now I feel like I am neglecting my dog but I have no choice. Unfortunately, I will probably have to give her away which freaking sucks ass. Anyway, I thought about sending her to Portugal where my dad lives. There she can roam free on the beach and he has another dog that is very playful. Does anyone know how much it cost and the procedures to send a dog overseas??

Is this just a temporary thing? They can't expect you to work overtime forever. If so, can you have a friend drop by to play with your pooch or take him/her for a walk?

The problem is that I don't know how long this will last and I don't have any friends that don't work or they are at home. On top of that, I hate to have to impose anything on anyone.

Cameleon3,You'd be surprised at how many people would like to be imposed on,I myself chose to take my neighbors Cocker out every day,the stay-at-home mom had to go back to work. No,I am not charging...I love Bailey..
I have no idea how much it would cost to transport a dog to Portugal, but it's a long flight..
The beaches in Portugal are loaded with scrawny"beach-dogs" and I am sure if your dog could talk he would prefer to stay with you,no matter what
What kind of dog is it??How old?
If sending her away is your only option, the Air-Line and your vet could tell you what you need to know.

You don't mention how old your dog is. Even if you are not around as much I'm sure she is attached to you and it would be very difficult for you both to part company. Have you checked into pet-sitting services in your area? Also, speak to your neighbours and vet and post notices asking for dog-walkers. Your situation may not last forever, and dogs are pretty adaptable to new routines.

Where are you located and since you will be working overtime can you hire a dog walker. I am sure your dog would rather be with you. If you have read any stories about shipping dogs and them dying in transit or the airline loosing them you might want to reconsider that option. It is not a 2 or 3 hour flight

lil_kirk,My neighbors Bailey the Cocker, knows me as the treat-lady by the fence, she's a little heavy so I only get her good quality treats.
She's soooo happy to see me,today though she did not want to stay out, just peed and wanted back in....to darn cold!!

Thank's...but it's my pleasure,I love that little dog  I have since she was a wee pup..
On at least a dozen occasions(in the summer) I've had to run and put her back in her yard, their owners would leave her and forget to secure the gate, they have 3 kids.Once she was stuck in the bushes by her collar,I always keep an eye on her..
Hubbie says,I can't go in to their backyard...but sure i can,if they are not home and Bailey is in trouble
The owners are actually greatful, especially now..
