Need opinions on planned foot surgery - canine

I have a 1 to 1-1/2 year old rescued Burmese Mt. Dog. At some time in the past, he apparently had an accident where the bottom of the foot was sliced away to where was hanging on by part of the flesh. It was allowed to heal where now the foot is like a shoe where the sole has come unglued and flaps. Dirt, stones, etc. get in the space and it gets rubbed and infected. Any thoughts on the best surgery to correct the problem and bring his foot together again?

I have performed surgery on injuries that you have described. One of the challenges is to get the 'sole' to stay put once it has been sutured into place. Heavy rest and close, prolonged post op time is required. I have have to refer more than one to a surgical specialist. I would keep the site clean and obtain a surgical consulation.

Thank you Dr. Lee. Because it has been quite some time and the skin has healed over both faces of the split in the foot, how is the skin prepped before suturing the two sides back together?
