extra gums?

My cat has extra bit of gums on the bottom of her mouth next to her eye teeth. They don't seem to be getting bigger and don 't bother her. They are little blobby shaped bits of gum.

Is this normal?

We adopted her and she has an appointment next week with the vet, but I thought maybe someone here would have heard of this.

Cat has extra gums - Answered by Dr. Van Lienden

There is a vegetative-type of normal anatomy
at the muco-cutaneous juncture, the area where the moist lip
area joins the typical skin that covers the rest of the cat.
It looks flared and has tiny finger-like projections. Very
normal and nothing to worry about. If ,however, the gum line
where the actual teeth erupt from the gum line is
implicated, then this can be benign tissue or malignant
tissue. Only a biopsy will determine the difference, and the
type of treatment required. Please see your veterinarian to
further determine what else you need to do.

Sincerely,
Dr. Van Lienden
