I have had these flowers for a few years, but do not know what they are,one is blueish, the other white, but the same kind anybody???
Also I replaced my"cherry"something burgundy bush with a Rose of Sharon, isn't this flower pretty, remind me of a Gardenia more than Rose of Sharon..

Chico, I think those are salvia. I got two blue ones this year from home depot. I think you can get blue, red, purple, white ones. Maybe more colors also.

Actually I think the blue might be a perrenial lobelia or cardinal flower. They come in red and blue and the blue is much hardier than the red.
If the white one is a perennial, then my guess would be musk mallow. It's too dark for me to go look at mine blooming in the garden and I don't have any close up pics of mine. I'll have a look in the morning. Mallow, hibiscus, rose of sharon, all related I think, just some are shrubs and some are perennial flowers. Cindy |

I was thinking lobelia for that first one, too, clm. I have some in my garden, too. The flowers would be longer and thinner if they were salvia--or at least the salvia in my hummingbird garden have longer and thinner flowers. Given hazel's supremely inept gardening skills, she is likely to be wrong, however.

Thank's,I feel kind of silly when people ask what my flowers are and all I can say is"it's a Flower!"
I know the white one is a Rose of Sharon and it is a bush, the white ones I have seen though, usually have a red part in the center, similar to my Hibiscus(pic from last year, not blooming yet)...

Do you have to bring your hibiscus in for the winter, Chico? It sure is pretty It would match my peonies ...er...well...if my peonies survive the commando raids the dogs are staging in the garden, anyway...the peonies are taking the brunt of the carnage.

I'll look at my salvia again when I get home and try and take a pic for you. The fullness and the deep veining in the leaves of the blue one is alot like mine. I can't tell if the white one has the same leaf veining or not.
My flower stalks are not very long, maybe cause they are just starting to flower up? I've only had mine in the ground for around a month or so. I have both kinds of rose of sharons. One is all white blossom, and the other one has the red center. I like them but they give me lots of little offsprings coming up in the grass.... |

Here are some pics of my rose of sharon blossoms. One is all white, other has red center. This does look alot like your hibiscus bloom (leaves very different though!).
Next is a closeup of the "mystic spires blue salvia". And then a shot of the plants today (hot outside!!). I think looking at the flower shape on your plant will help tell if it is salvia or lobelia. Maybe similarity in leave shape is fooling me. I don't have the lobelia, but found a pic on the web and its blossom looks quite different than the salvia (upclose that is). And here's the lobelia from the web. Pretty flowers!! They have a fuzzy look that I almost see in your pics (that is the youngest flowers that are not open yet).

My Rose of Sharon,is a double flower it does not have an indecent center like yours Hazel, the Hibiscus is a perennial flower and stays in the ground all year,I cut it to groundlevel every spring,I've had it for at least 10 yrs,but I don't have 7 dogs
