kitty just neutered and in pain
My cat whos name is kitty was neutered last Wednesday February 9th, with this he was also declawed. He didn't bounce back and when I took him to the doctor yesterday the doctor said there was no swelling and no bleeding from either his testicle area and his paws, but was running a 107 temp. They gave me medicine for him incase there was an infection somewhere but then sent me home. I then noticed that he was bleeding from his testicle area. THe doctor told me it was normal, is it?

ugh
I'm a little surprised that an animal with that high a temperature would just be sent home? As for the bleeding... did he have his stitches removed while at the vets office?

It's rather unusual that he's bleeding after a week. Is he licking himself a lot? Is he eating well? Limping? Does he look like he has pain when you pick him up?
What is the medication they gave you? Antibiotics, I assume? Or anti-inflammatories? BMDLuver, male cats don't get stitches when they're neutered. :-) Lyne |

BMD... It heals quite well and stitches would just bother them. It's not done like a dog. It's just two small cuts, just large enough to take each testicle out.

When Casper was done, they actually used a glue.It did look a bit yucky. There was a hard patch. But after about a week,it actually fell off. As for the bleeding,I have never had this happen to any of my males.Has your kitten been licking the area?

I have had 4 males nuetered (when they were younger) and have never had a problem with bleeding, Declawing could be the reason for the infection, I understand infection after declawing is quite commom, especially since they dig to go to the bathroom and they dig to bury it.
I don't know though as I have never had any of my cats declawed.

Poor kitty   I've had 7 cats neutered in my life-time,no bleeding,no pain....The infection and pain, most definetly from the paw-mutilation...
Please bring him back to the vet, don't let your kitty be in pain  I am not blaming you, many people do not know what declawing entails,I just wish you would have come to ask us before the deed. But that's water under the bridge now.....Hope your kitty gets the help he needs.
