Jiorji,OH no,my cats are terrified of the carrier,it's a 2-man job getting one in there
However this little mom,is quiet tame, goes up to Phoozles and her hubby willingly and probably has not yet had a scary experience(like vet-visit)in a carrier. Getting the mom first,if the kittens go in to hiding is probably not a good idea after all

We'll probably keep Ethel, and I already have a few dibs on at least the black one.. I guess we'll just give the other two away (it'll probably be really hard, though) She's also super friendly - I've already picked her up with no problem. I could probably carry her all the way back to my house (which really isn't that far - we're directly across the street) without a carrier, but I don't know what she'll do once the kittens have been rounded up. I have to get the kittens first - otherwise they'll never come out. Plus with Jake, I think I've mastered the art of getting a cat in a carrier. It helps if you work with really fat one..

They are the fuzziest, cutest balls of fur ever! Makes me long for the days when Angus and Finn were that little
Are you going to get them today? I wish I could help. I caught two stray kittens last November at work. It ended with me getting a very sharp kitten tooth clean through my middle finger nail into my finger and a rabies scare, lol. I recommend wearing some leather gloves, because no matter how much they trust you they may not appreciate being picked up and you don't want your finger impaled on a little tooth. Good luck Phoozles!!

Awww.... they are just too cute for words. I've never seen a black cat with white throughout like that. Do you know the people well that are taking it? Will we get pics when it gets older?
I hope the roundup goes well today. |

The black one does have a strange coat - no idea if it will stay that way, but either my sister or my brother wants to take it, so if that happens, we'll definitely get more pics! As for the round up, it didn't go all that well.. FH had to work early this afternoon - we sat with them beforehand, but the kittens were just too skittish. Later on, after FH left, the sky started to darken, so I went to see the kittens, just to fill up the dish at least. Ethel came running out, and the wind was just so crazy that I thought I would try to get the kittens myself to save them from the storm.. I got the carrier from my house, filled it with treats and came back - by this time the sky is whipping around, it's almost black and it feels like a tornado is coming.. Ethel walked right into the carrier (no worries there!) to get the treats and Iggy (the brown eyed one), started to go in too, but the other two were no where to be seen. Soon the rain started to pelt down, and I figured I missed my window. I had a new problem - Ethel wouldn't get out of the carrier! I needed to get her out so that I could save it from the rain for the next attempt, and I actually had to force her out - I hope she doesn't hold it against me.. FH gets home before dark and we can try tonight, or we'll have to wait until tomorrow..

Great attempt! At least you know mom will go in without a problem. If you can give it some time she would probably get the kids in too. But I still think the course of action should be kids first, then mom. Or kids first, carry mom. Something like that. Then again, sometimes you just gotta go with the flow, seize the moment .....

There is never an overload as far as I am concerned of cute kitten pics. And these little kittens are so cute.We have not had a kitten in our house for awhile. Looking at these pics reminds me how much fun it is to be around kittens. I think all of these are adorable, esp the one your family member may take. That kitten is a real cutie.

Darn the weather! I hope the next try is more successful.
At least you have mom who is being cooperative, so that's one hurdle down.

Do you have two carriers or will all of them fit into one? I was thinking if you put food in two, kittens may go into one and momma into the other. Keep getting their trust to go in the carrier and don't try to trap them in unless you are sure you can get them all, it may scare them and they won't go in again.
Good luck, they are super adorable!

Well, here's the latest update..
FH got home before dusk, so back we went, carrier in hand.. Ethel went in pretty quickly, and then the brown eyed one was in there, attacking it with gusto . The black one soon followed, and I purposely picked them up a few times to get them used to it - I especially did it right in front of Ethel, and she didn't mind.. Then came the blue eyed one. *sigh* . This one is EXTREMELY skiddish. It finally came close enough, so I grabbed it (because the other two were already in the bag) and it freaked and ran back under. The next time it came out I waited a long time. It looked like the right time, so I grabbed it again, it hissed and back it went into hiding. It took forever to come back out, but I didn't want to risk grabbing it again, so we just let them play. So the kittens are still there. The other two will be easy to get - it's just that one. And I'm sure Ethel will just follow us back to our place - no carrier necessary for her. I've picked her up several times and held her, and she has no problem with it. All four could easily fit in it, but I think it would be best to not have Ethel in there with them. Tonight we're going to try to establish trust with the blue eyed one. If it takes the whole night to do so, then we wait another day. I have been eaten alive trying to get these little guys - stupid misquitos! Oh well, patience patience patience..

I hope so Ancient! Then I have to see how Jake and Alley are going to react..
I don't know if it's the heat or what, but for the past couple of days, the two of them have been getting along pretty great. Jake hasn't really hissed at her at all (lately it's been all he's doing - even if she was across the room), and he was even playing with her for a while..

How about trying some canned food on your hand. I found that really gained the trust of my foster kittens who were semi feral.

that today is the day!!
When we were stealing our outdoor feral's babies ( a little different than what you are doing as they trust you a bit....), we just grabbed them and no matter what didn't let go until they were safely in the carrier (mind you our hands were pretty rough after). We worried about gaining trust AFTER we had them safely inside... and as Fagan can attest to, it worked, he barely remembers being a scared kitten manhandled by us. It'll be great if that third kitten gets in on his own... but you might have to just scruff him and shove him in. I know how hard it is to grab those squirmy little guys when they don't want to go.... so I hope tonight goes realy smoothly and you have no problems with Ethel either!!! Those kitties are so lucky to have you!

Hopefully Jake and Alley will be okay with it. I know that's hard, but right now you have to help that momma kitty and her babies.
That's a good idea about the food. Skittish kitties are so hard, but hopefully he'll come around.

I'm thinking a quick grab of the third one will have to be done as well. I tried it the first time, but it squiggled and hissed and I felt bad and let go - when I should have just shoved it in the carrier..
I've tried luring it with treats and cooked chicken, but it's terrified of any hand movement we make - we can't even make eye contact with it without it ducking back under cover. It kind of seems like a new development - I could have sworn that on the first night I was able to actually pick this little one up .. I'll try the food on my hands ( ) but I'm not sure it's going to work - not with that one.. Worth a try though! Thanks again for everyone's help and support - it really makes a difference!

Grab and shove! I had to do that Saturday morning with Czarina to put her in a carrier. She wasn't happy, but I got her in there and she was okay afterwards. That little guy won't even remember what you did after a while.

I wish it wasn't too hot to wear gloves - this is probably going to hurt
Here's another pic of them, all three together - I posted it on the original Ethel thread, but if you missed it, here they are again - I love the brown eyed one's mouth in this one! (I've tentatively named the brown eyed one Iggy - FH wants to name him - pretty sure it's a boy - Admiral Awesome, the black one Captain Cool and the blue eyed one General Ninja.. Men.. )

Still no kittens
I went over there right after work - Ethel wasn't around, but Igby (the brown eyed one) came out after I called him, even without her there, and walked right into the carrier.. But, of course, I needed all three, so I left and had dinner. Later, FH came home so we went back.. Had both Igby and the black one in there, and after a lot of patience, the blue eyed one was right next to me. So I grabbed it and put it in the carrier - but FH was too slow and didn't close the carrier fast enough so out they came WE WERE SO CLOSE! Anyway, massive thunderstorms came in shortly after, so we'll have to try again tonight.. *sigh*

You are getting so close!! My thoughts are - if the two kitties will go in no problem then you can make sure they are in the carrier. Put the carrier sort of on edge/end and put third kitty in. This way he/she can't get out before slow FH gets the door closed. (sorry FH, Phoozles said it first ) Even if Ethel isn't around take the kitties back to your place. She will show up, believe me! I don't think she is going to leave a good thing and she will be looking for her kitties. It worked really well for me with the last feral I caught. If it makes you feel better give it a couple of days rest to regain trust again. JMO

Oh yes, sorry, Ethel is fine - she was there when we came back the second time (or was it the third? hard to keep track).. I was a little worried when I didn't see her the first time, but I guess she was just cruisin'.. When I came back the next time, a tortie was eating their food.. And I all thought was - I can't get invested in you.. you need to leave..

Thank goodness she's fine. Poor Tortie, but I know what you mean. This morning I was talking to Miguel, telling him to keep Czarina's old food to give to the others around, and he said he was going to start putting some out for a little orange tabby to try and tame him too. NOOOOOOOOOOOO. I told him I've already got 5, I absolutely have no room for one more. The little tabby already breaks my heart, because he reminds me of Maks, but I can't get emotionally attached to another one:sad:
didn't heat to TJ.
