My son went on a farm trip with his class this fall, and all the kids saw 2 cows "going at it"
And it was my son who broke the silence by saying "Look at those two cows dancing!"
So you can always tell them they were dancing? (the dance of love )

If it happened on the road I would say that the doe didn't signal her intention to stop and the buck was on his cell phone and not paying attention to the deer in front and caused an accident. Because of the impact it took several minutes of backing up and going forward to untangle the two 'vehicles'.

Good one ! And you might want to add ; that is why you should never use your cell on the road !

Sometimes Mother Nature provides us with the perfect introduction to "The Talk". Given the state of music videos and advertising in general, kids are aware of and accept without a thousand questions afterward far more than we give them credit for and imagine they know. Sometimes even a simple answer like "That's how they make a baby bambi" is all they need.

5 is a bit young... 7 still too young... but if it had been the 10 year old in the car alone...

That's what you'd say to the deer, or Pug Lover?

I'd probably go with, "Look! A firefly!' and point out the window furthest away.

4 minutes, huh? Yeeeaaaa...most of the rest of my comments are inappropriate for here...

Oh my gosh ! You can't make this stuff up. That's hysterical. I'm sorry to laugh, but parenting is such a wild ride isn't it? Was the buck singing that Beatles song "Why don't we do it in the road?"

You'd be surprised! At 6 years old, my little guy was learning about the life cycle of humans in school last year. Completely floored me when he asked why God decided to give girls (not boys) a uterus.

The 10 year old probably would have rolled her eyes at your explanation, Prin.

I would explain what was happening. I see kids of all ages and they know so much more than even I knew at their young ages - tho my grandparents did have a farm and I did see various "things" - ahem, lol (as do many young children). Of course, how you explain it is critical and therein is the skill of a parent. There are numerous books on the market to explain this. I have had children as young as 7 (my niece's age!!) ask me whether such and such a medication or procedure's will affect their ability to have babies when they are older. Granted, children who are seriously ill often mature quickly but we hear it from kids of all ages.

I am betting that if Art Linkletter did his show )Kids say the darndest things", he might have do some very serious editing, lol

You could of course explain Bambi and her friend were just playing. Ask them if they know how rough kittens sometimes play (or puppies, rabbits - hmmm, maybe not the rabbits, lol) and say that bigger animals also like to play like that. It all depends how comfortable you feel explaining it all.

my kid the 10 yr old knows what was happening--the other 2 who were sleeping in the back woke to my kid screaming "deer"

didnt think it was appropriate to explain what was happen to the other 2

coulnt get found them they in the middle of the road.... however if i had a sling shot with me......... that buck would have gotten one in the backside

nothing to hurt him we use dog kibbles but would have given him something to think about

unfortunately the road we were travelling on is small, dark and surrounded by bush on either side-- we have asked to have the deer in there culled:sad:
but there are just way too many in there so incidents like this and dead deer on the side of the road are frequent--just never happened to me before

Roll down your window, honk your horn and yell: "Get a room you two!!!"

Then nose your van ahead until they get out of the way.

Say nothing to the kids.

If deer "daddies" are anything like human daddies honking the horn wouldn't have helped anyway. Neither would a sling shot. That buck was likely a "man on a mission"--not easily distracted from the task at hand.

Moddies--how did I do keeping that "family friendly'? I think this thread has something like 100 euphemisms by now. LOL !
