Question Guinea Pig Skin Problem

This is the first guinea pig we've ever had, so I'm still learning. When we first got her she got scabs in her fur. When we switched to a different bedding. All the scabs went away, but now she has horribly dry skin on her back. It really bothers her. If we itch it for her she goes into a spasm and freezes up. It's got to be painful. I took her to the vet, but we live in a rural area, and I don't think she sees many guinea pigs. She thought maybe mites, but we've been giving her this medicine for 3 weeks now, and there has been no change. Am I doing something wrong? I don't know if it could be an allergy or something. What other things do you think I should try?

What are you feeding her? Those little greyish colored pellets?

It could be food.Make sure you're feeding a guinea pig diet with vitamin C as they are very susceptable to deficiencies, fresh vegetables are also important,as well as fresh timothy hay(not alfalfa)available always. They can also have problem with ringworm which is a skin fungus that causes round lesions and loss of hair in circles.

G-Pigs don't like cedar shavings and some don't like pine shavings either. No newspaper at all. You can try aspen bedding.
Feed timothy hay that is very clean, and good quality pig pellets without treats in it.
Feed fresh, washed fruits and veggies: apple, orange, carrot etc.
She may have a skin mite which would be treated with ivermectin as per your vet's instructions.
Keep her warm and out of drafts and chills. Good Luck, pigs are great pets.

antifungal cream

My guinea pig had the same problem. The vet told me to get over the counter anti fungal cream, usually it says it's for jock itch. Her skin was clear in a couple of weeks.
