Unhappy Dog has weird diarrhea

My dog, a German wire-hair almost 2 years old, has diarrhea. He started yesterday with it. It wasnt really watery yesterday, and today is a bit more watery. He seems to have to go, or feel like he has to go, at least once an hour. And often he squats for about 5-10 minutes with very little or no release of bowels. He is still VERY active and seems to be drinking enough water. My mother wondered if maybe he isnt constipated which is causing the diarrhea? My sisters vet tells her to feed her dog 4 cups of egg noodles a day when he has diarrhea. I did this today, no improvement so far. Please help, I am stressing out over this...I have to keep the dog outside all the time now because he has had several accidents in the house!
