HELP - PET GETTING UP AT NIGHT FOR BMs
Dibbs, our 2 year old miniature german schnauzer, is on phenobarbitol and potassium bromide for fly-bite seizures. These meds increase thirst. During the last 6 months Dibbs gets up at night between 4 and 4:30 a.m. (barks from his crate) to go outside and do his business. He does his business before going to bed at night and also during the day. If I don't get up to leave him outside during the night, he barks some more and does his business in the corner of his cage. Stool samples are all negative. He does not get a treat for going outside to do his business. He gets fed at 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Meds are at 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. He didn't do this as a puppy -- only since on these meds! HELP - all suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's med-related, it's going to be a hard thing to break him of. Have you tried tweaking his feeding / dosing schedule a little to see if you can get him through the night?
Poor Dibbs. that you can find a schedule that suits you all! Sleep deprivation is no fun...
