Great pics, dustybird!! That's some view you have from your office. But I love that hummingbird moth. We get them, too--reminds me of summer on this otherwise frigid day!

Love the pic of Stixx imposing upon Dad's wardrobe!

Oh, and how did you find the vireo's nest, much less photograph it!? Ours all nest in the tippy-tops of the trees...

Stixx loves to nap under blankets and when she can't she finds an alternative.

The veriole nest was in a birch tree where we hang the sheets and where we have our little island garden. I was trimming some branches and just about trimmed it, almost had a heart attack. I would have felt horrible if I had cut it. There were three eggs inside, when I stepped back mom was right there checking thigs out. I don't know why but it seems that most of the bird on the island anyway seem to have thier nest's fairly low in the trees. The only reason I can think of is because we have sooooooo many Grackles and since they like to sit high and also like to raid all other nests the other birds feel safer on lower thinner branches that can't hold a Grackles weight....my theory anyway. She got use to me being around a lot(due to all the laundry we have) and didn't seem to mind me take a few pics now and then.

Ok I just posted a reply but don't know where it went
Try again.

Aww thanks for the lovely comments. I am always lurking around on here and thought I should probably stop being lazy and post something. I couldn't help but add the pic of the island...really can't wait for spring to get here. I think I have mentioned the island here and there so I thought at least everyone could see what I mean when I say we're in the middle of nowhere. It's definately a cats and dogs paradise as they're safe to roam the island(ours can't but the bosses cats do). Their one cat likes to poke at the crayfish along the shore which I find odd and their dog would make the rounds during dinner time to all the cabins looking for "treats" which we had to put in a letter telling them not to give her anything. Some nights she wouldn't come home as she'd sleep over in one of the guest's beds. We all including the guest's miss her dearly as she passed away this summer at 15, she was a special girl who must have gotten at least 100 pats a day.

Dustybird, the second I saw that areal shot, I thought how wonderful it would be to live on some island like that. I'd love to be able to let my gang run around a place like that. It looks a lot safer than just the normal wilderness, as I assume those islands have no predatory animals.

Well there are black bears, fishers, bald eagles, the odd golden eagle, wolves, coyotes, some say they have seen/heard a cougar. Thankfully though it is extremly rare to have any of them come onto the island. There has been the odd bear that has stopped by for a visit but you know about it pretty quick and then a plan is set and everyone helps to get him/her to leave. The eagles don't seem to fly over just around and the cats seem to know where to go and hide if need be. For the most part the cats hang around the main part of the island(by the lodge) and we always leave the shed doors open and they know how to open the sliding screen door to the lodge. They're also kept inside at night just incase. With all the people milling around the possible kitty eaters stay away. I'd like to let our two kids out to play but the bosses cats are FIP carriers so it's just not going to happen, plus our cats are smart enough to not taste things they're not suppose to like garbage bags for one. They don't want what's inside just the bags.
