Pubert Wizzer Howell-Boyd III

I am finnally ok with writing this post, it took me a few days to work up the courage to type it all out, such a sad day at the Boyd's. This little guy was my first pet as an adult, all mine to love and care for.

On Saturday July 12th we said good bye to Pubert and sent him to the Rainbow Bridge where he is now terrorizing the dogs to no end Im sure.

It was 13 years ago when I went the the human society in Sault Ste. Marie, ON to pick out a kitty. I knew I wanted an ornage one, and when the lady opened his cage he came out strutt'n his orange junk across the room, climbed up on me and started kneeding and purring. I was sold. Game over. I took him home, opened the cage, and out walks Pubert...DH noticed what I hadn't, he had extra toes, 6 on the front, 7 on the back..."what is that?" he says...a cat of course. Then I noticed the toes, so strange and unusual, but oh so cute.

We moved out west and drove out here from ON, me, DH and Pubert, in my tiny truck, everything we owned and my kitty - there was no way he wasn't coming with us. He was always up to no good, always kung fooing anyone who didn't live with us, always clearing the coffee table with a swipe of his huge paw and meowing the night away, many many sleepless nights cuz of this guy...he learnt to open the bed room doors, so even shutting them didn't stop him from coming in to wake us up.

He took on 2 of my friends pitbulls and any dog in his space, always making them cower and back away He hated little kids with a passion, and loved to beg for food. He would eat anything human food wise, his favorites was popcorn and mashed taters. He loved his humans and was always ready for a snuggle!!

Getting the dog really took its toll on him, one day we noticed he was...old. We weren't sure of his age when we got him. He wasn't sick with anything in particular, just an old man with arthritis and a super bad attitude. After a year of failing health and many tests and theories, it was his time to go, it was time for me to let go, it was the hardest thing DH and I have ever had to face together, we were with him till the end.

The house isn't the same without him, we will always remember and miss our first pet, our only cat....Mr. Kitzer...the Chuck Norris of cats...Kung Foo Kitty, my sweet boy Pubert. Run free my kitty, get your claws and groove back...fling hair elastics, eat mounds of mashed taters and all you can eat cat nip.

Ford Girl, if you haven't already, I think the pic of Dazy & Pubert "smooching" on the bed would be really nice as a framed 8x10

So sorry FG,but I am sure beautiful, feisty little Pubert will keep everyone in line at the Bridge.
I am glad you decided to stay with him,I would never have it any other way.
Like I always say, these little guys are small in stature, but take up an awful lot of space in our hearts.

He loved to swat thats for sure!! He would wait in the hallway when we had parties and he's raise his paw up like a high five and people would say..."aw, he's so cute"...then he'd kung foo them, most people would freak out expecting it to be clawed to death, but he had no claws (not my doing). He would even swat grandma! And he'd run at Dazy swattn her chops backing her inthe corner, when she went belly up, he'd clean her ears! LOL!

I have a collage to be framed in the works, with the 3 pics of him and Dazy fighting, the smooch pic and one with me, Dazy and Pubert all on the couch when I had the flue.

I had a paw print done, a little ceramic momento, with his 6 toes. I'll take a pic when I get it.

It was hard to be there, at first my fear and sadness made me wonder if I could handle it...then I spoke with you guys, those who had done it, and realized it wasn't about me and how I felt, I had to be there, as his gaurdian, as his keeper, I owed it to him to confort him to the end. My DH was with us as well.

I love the kissing picture, too. The memories of the feisty ones are the ones that make you smile the most. He might've been grumpy but he was your little man.

FG,that is exactly why it is important to me to be there for our animals when they take their last breaths.
It's not about our breaking hearts and tears,it's about beeing there for them until the end.
I remember the pic of Pubert and your doggie on the bed, those beautiful colours of the bedding and those 2 kissing(sort of)
Right now I cannot look at Puberts pics without tearing up,but I will later..

FG - so sorry to hear you lost Pubert. I always loved his name it made me laugh. He looked exactly like my old boy Whisker (Big Red) who we lost many years back. RIP sweet Pubert - show em all how it's done at the Bridge okay! It's good you were with him at the end. I have always been with mine at the end except for one, who I left to be put down several hours later, and that was eight years ago and to this day I still regret it. It makes me cry even now to know that I left her there in a cage all alone until the vet came in (I had an appointment but they didn't tell me nobody was going to be there). I should have taken her home and come back later, but I had just lost my husband and she was so sick herself and I had a puppy with kennel cough at home and I just left her there. I tell myself she'd understand and has forgiven me, but I will never leave one alone again. You did good by Pubert.

FordGirl, so sorry you had to let Pubert go. You gave him a wonderful life and I'm sure he's looking down at you from the Bridge.

He certainly was a handsome boy.

I'm so sorry you had to let Pubert go, but you made the right decision and yuo made it for him. you were unselfish in the decision and it was the best thing you could have ever given him! You stuck with him for a whole year while he was sick, and i'm sure through many other times when he wasnt feeling the best! You certainly gave him the best life he could have ever had! I offer you my deepest sympathy!
