Reptiles?
Me and my husband were talking about one day( not in the near future) of getting a corn snake. and I was wondering does anyone know of any informative sites on them. Or even any forums that are just dedicated to snakes. We know the basic care for them but I want to get as much info as possible. I have started looking around the internet for info an them. Also does anyone know a site that gives good diagrams for builind indoor enclosures for them. thanks for any ideas in advance.

I would get on www.googles.com and title the question corn snakes, and see what pops up. I learn so much about whatever animal in question just by browsing.

I found a sight might be of interest. Go to www.anopsid.org/corn
It says the sight isnt there, just look to the side and go to the snakes. Hope this helps |

I don't know of any websites, but I have had many snakes as pets. Our last was a python named "Monty".
When you build your enclosure, know that if the snake really wants out, he'll find a way. You'd be amazed what escape artists they are. Leave a bowl of water near the enclosure, on the floor. If the snake gets out, he'll need water and come there for it, or even curl up in it. Corn snakes love to have plenty of things to hide under, and much foliage on the ground. Please do NOT use wood chips or shavings on the bottom of his enclosure. They get stuck in their mouth while trying to feed- stuck on their prey, etc. There is a great product made of actual corn that you can put on the bottom, which is very safe if it is pesticide-free. Anything you put in there must be pesticide free. When shopping for a corn snake, take a good look at its mouth for mouth rot. A mouth that hangs partly open, or seems to be skewed at an odd angle is likely afflicted with it. No, corn snakes are not endangered. |

thanks everyone for the replies we (well i) are looking at possiblely a Red albino or a candy cane corn snake. Both are so pretty. I do know I need to find out about if i have to have a linence(sp?) for one. even though they are not endangered some places consider them exotic and you would need a licence. I did find a forum good info but kinda dead.

Here is a site I go to on occasion that discusses all reptiles and snakes. The guys that run it are pretty nice and knowledgeable but don't always get back to you in a timely fashion!!! Try it though and see!!! Good luck!!! I don't do snakes, I have lizards and geckos but put my foot down with snakes!!

My requirement for snakes is 1:it can't strangle me and kill me 2: if it bites it can't kill me. I looked online and find the corn snake the best choice for me. being a beiginner they are real docile and tame. Plus (an added bonus) they come in many different colors.

My older brother's king snake got loose in the house and wasn't found for 3 mos. I was terrified every nite. I'd check in my bed and under it before going to bed. Finally found it curled up in a window sunning itself. Hate snakes!

King snakes are beautiful! Ah, but to each their own.
I would rather have a snake loose in my house than the vermin they eat! |
