Aww, geeze, it's going to be a long week for you.

How far is the ophthalmologist from you? Can you get there and back in one day or is hubby going to be taking him?

Sending lots of good luck for Cole.

for your hubby! It's amazing what they can do these days, isn't it?

If it gets bad enough they can surgically remove the cataract just as in humans, but I don't think they implant an artificial lens.

We were going to, but we'd have to wait till the first week in Feb to get in. We decided that neither of us would be capable of surviving that long so Cole is seeing Dr LaRocca at a private ophthalmology clinic in Andover. We saw him about 9 years ago when Evan needed eye surgery.

for the offer of help, but I'm hoping this will be a relatively quick trip

I believe Andover is about 3.5 hours from here. It's just north of Minneapolis. It'll just be a day trip. hubby is taking Cole, hazel will stay home with the rest of the Pack. Makes me a little nervous cuz hazel is a much better navigator than hubby is, and we've never been to the new clinic.

Aw, thanks, meg and growler! Cole will really appreciate the good wishes from a fellow mohawker, Barkley! Cole's was really spikey when he got home, so the ladies at the clinic must've been mussin' his tresses again while he was there. All the ladies love him

At least that clinic hopefully won't be as crowded as the U of MN is! But I'm here if you need anything! Poor puppy. But LOL about him being a big hit!

Thanks, Archie's Mummy. I've got a question for you that I'll PM you--not sure if you can get PMs yet, though.

Yep, only minimal travel time through the Cities from here. Still have to spend some time on 694, but with luck he won't get too lost If he calls me telling me he's lost on a streetcorner somewhere, I'll let you know!

Cole is an equal-opportunity schmoozer...a real charmer. Ladies everywhere flock to him just to bask in the glow of his aura! Well...that, and to play with his mohawk!

Whooops...you can't get PMs yet, Archies_Mum...so I'll have to wait and try to remember to try again in a day or two.

Okay, here's the scoop.

It's a cataract forming due to a congenital malformation of the lens. So there's a lot of good news there--it's not genetic and the other lens isn't malformed, so likely only the one eye will be affected; there's no cancer, diabetes, or glaucoma; his eyesight is currently unimpaired by the cataract; there's a good chance that the cataract will not progress, but if it does, it's surgically treatable! All in all, good news and a great relief!

And, amazingly, hubby found the specialists office even though Cole was navigating!

Great news Hazel. Will he have to go back to have it looked at by the specialist on a scheduled basis?

We have one follow-up in three months and depending on how it's progressing (or not) we may have more. If it doesn't progess we'll likely just take him back once a year to have it checked out.

Didn't cost much, either ...which means we can probably pay for Lil Belle's ultrasound this morning out-of-pocket.

Nope, no glasses, Chris!

Chico, Lil Belle is having a Lyme's flare-up, is fighting a case of anaplasmosis, and we think also think she may have leptospirosis (titers won't be back for a few days yet, though). Some of her liver enzymes were elevated, likely from the anaplasmosis or lepto (if she has it), but they're doing an ultrasound to make sure there's nothing else going on. She responded to the meds almost immediately, so we're hopeful they won't see anything out of the ordinary during the ultrasound.

This comes under the category, "If it's not one thing, it's another", I believe.

I'm so glad you got good news about Cole's eye. You've been in my thoughts.

Now that Lil Belle will get a good report. I don't know if you've ever tried it, but they put Tipper on Denamarin for her liver enzymes. It was successful in lowering the enzymes when she had hepatitis. This was not the medication that threw her into kidney failure.

Just got the call. The ultrasound showed some residual inflammation, but the elevated enzyme levels are already subsiding and she's responded well to the antibiotics. So right now, the prime suspect is either anaplasmosis or leptospirosis (we'll have those titers back this week some time).

that we won't need any further meds to support her liver function, but thanks for the link, ScottieDog--that's a great site!

for the good wishes

Glad to hear that Cole's diagnosis was nothing serious and what a relief for you and the HRD. And, hopefully, there will be no progression when he has it re-checked in three months.

So you're back to pilling all eight of them for leptospirosis/anaplasmosis.

I hope they all have a speedy recovery. x 8 and x 8
