Part Time Job Ideas?

I got accepted to Medix School in Brampton and I start Jan 29th. I will be taking Medical Office Assistant which I hope will land me into Medical Transcription or Medical Records in a Hospital. My classes will be M-F 8am-1pm so I need to find a part time job to pay off OSAP and my other bills.

Now this wouldn't be so hard if I didn't have back problems. I can't stand longer than 20-30 mins without my feet and lower back starting to hurt so any assembly line jobs, although a dime a dozen, would not be good unless I try to suck up the pain but it may leave me crippled by the end of the week. Also, not good with customers/phones (I hope this is resolved with the proper education/training at Medix). I did find a part time data entry job on the weekends, but missed the call one day and left 2-3 messages the last 2 weeks of December only to find out they already gave it to someone else.

So I'm coming up blank as to finding a good part time job where I can work anytime after 1:30/2:00pm to 9/10pm. I thought of babysitting, I have 4 years experience but have not done it since I was 17 or 18 (25 now) so I don't think anybody would want someone like that. There was also this link I came across http://www.earnparttime.com/company.do but it doesn't explain what it actually entails and if it's like talking to random ppl off the street I don't think I'd be good at it.

Any ideas?

I would have suggested a casino but you can't stand for an hour or so at a time
i work at the tables in a casino and our union has us getting breaks every hour, so if you can stand at a table for about an hour at a time with 15 minute breaks, you might want to check that out.

I did customer support online, meaning I didn't actually *speak* to people, but replied to their queries via a so-called 'ticket' system. It was working from home, at hours that were convenient to me on days that were pre-arranged. I am sure that company isn't the only company to have such a customer support system. Perhaps you can look around for something like that?

I've also checked out guru.com, freelancer.com and ODesk.com but the competition is soo saturated that it just seems pointless.

Congrats on getting into the medix school.a friend went through them on the same course and is working in the KW Hospital and said it was a good course.

For work how about going through a temp service.there are ones out there that do cover office work.

Thanks for the review about Medix angeldogs!

I am actually with a temp agency but nothing is coming in

Has anyone in the Mississauga area (or maybe other areas) seen truck that has hologram advertisements that scroll on the panels of the vehicle? I think they basically just drive around and hope ppl see their clients' advertisements. I can't remember the company so if anyone has seen these mobile advertising trucks, let me know

Have you thought about going to pharamacies and see if they need any delivery drivers.

Our friend said the course could be hard but well worth it.and working at the hospital she is making good money.and enjoys the work she does.

I am sorry you have to deal with chronic pain, it is not fun. Also, not good with customers/phones (I hope this is resolved with the proper education/training at Medix). I did find a part time data entry job on the weekends, but missed the call one day and left 2-3 messages the last 2 weeks of December only to find out they already gave it to someone else. I would call them back an dsay you are still interested in case that person doesn't 'work out', or maybe they will need more people in the near future. It will show that you are interested? JMO.

I would see if they have an 'employment opportunites board, or something like that on site at the Educational Instsitution you will be attending. When I went to get my Nursing Degree, the U of A, and I know other Colleges often have them. (That was a 15 yrs ago though)But, people sometimes are 'pre recruiting' staff, and it may even end up that you could find something in the field or a similar area that you are entering into there.Again, I am not sure if that is something they still do, but some of the people I went to Nursing School with got part time 4 hrs shifts with private Home Care Agencies.Hope you find something that you can enjoy, and will not interefer with school, or aggrevate your back injury.

Thanks for the congrats I'm excited and nervous lol new environment = new ppl.

While trying to figure out if the job was still available I stated I was still interested and left my contact info again so here's hoping that that person 'doesn't work out'

I will keep a lookout for a job board at Medix. Hopefully they have one or maybe I'll meet a new friend who has a job contact

angeldogs, good idea! Honestly never thought of that. You're awesome And that's great about your friend. I am looking for a challenge and something I will enjoy and not get bored of plus the scrubs sure are a perk no more business attire

I know a lot of people have their own computers now, but do people still type reports and such for college students?? Some students don't know the proper layouts and don't have the spelling and grammar skills and such to say nothing of time. I know it used to pay pretty good. I also did some work a few years back typing a book for a fellow. I like the house/pet sitting idea myself, but would caution you about whether you need insurance for that.

You could also look into selling Avon products ... it usually sells itself

I thought about Avon but didn't know if you could really make a lot off of it. I've read that you do ok by yourself but if you can recruit reps then that's where you make a lot. Maybe if I can get some cash first I can use it for Avon start up costs?

I think there are a few companies that offer this service already. I can proofread to an extent but I doubt that would be in demand.

I know someone who types court transcripts. She is actually working under someone who has the contract. You should see if you can find something like this- she only does it for a couple of hours a day.
Additionally, I wouldn't discount babysitting. We specifically look for someone who is older and we pay very well in order to secure an older adult. ($15/hr)
Pet sitting is another good idea, I know someone mentioned that.
You could try to find a customer service agency who is doing chat/email responses. They are mostly canned responses anyway

Still no luck finding any jobs. I've had my resumé looked at but there is nothing wrong with it. I apply and apply and no one phones back. Starting to think the universe is against me.

Think I might try to do Avon cuz of the low startup cost. I figure I can sell a lot of it online and you get a bigger commission that way. Won't be doing much cold knocking though, but will enjoy selling to my family and friends cuz I already know them Anyone heard of Epicure Selections? It's like Avon, but stuff for the home i.e. bakeware, spices, bath products, etc. I'd like to go with them too but would like to hear from others if they know other ppl who do it or just some kinda review...
