Homeless at 15

I saw a poster at the vet's office yesterday, someone looking to rehome a 15-year old husky/German shepherd. Very sad backstory.
According to the poster, he is on the small side, good company, not growly(although a bit of a barker). No mention of his behaviour with other dogs or whether he is neutered.
I know it's a long shot but figured he could use the exposure .
Anyone who is interested in pursuing this should PM me.

Badger that is so sad! I cant imagine what this poor dog is going to go through! let alone anyone that takes him in!

Its too bad that these family pets have to live out any remaining days they have in another place! Maybe the vet would be nice and let him be the office mascot??

How can someone rehome a dog after 15 yrs???????

I cannot fathom how someone could be so cold. A dog that has been loyal for 15 years gets repaid by being tossed out to spend his remaining few years with strangers or worse in a shelter because no one wants to adopt a senior dog.

How horribly sad is this?? What a way to spend your senior years! I pray that someone will open their hearts and home.

I hope that is the reason and not that someone is dumping him because of his age.

Poor sweet boy .....I hope someone takes him in soon.

Confused, bewildered, lost....I do not understand why someone would do this. Even if someone died, why were discussions amongst family members neglected on what to do with the animals. In our family, everyone is committed in taking over the animals. None of our animals (in case something happens) will find themselves homeless or in rescues or shelters. We collectively agreed as to who gets whom based on the animals that are already in the household and temperments of each animal that may require re-homing amongst family. For one of my pets, I have a friend that will take over, and I for her 3 pets.

This really disturbs me.

This just breaks my heart. Most of us would give our eye teeth to have our beloved pets live healthily and happily to 15, 16 years. Here is a perfectly beautiful dog in his twilight years left behind in an incredibly stressful situation

I wish I could help but we are at the "house limit" here.

Please keep us posted if you hear of how this gets resolved.

My mom needed some company so I scoped out the SPCA shelter in our small town and found a cat that would suit her. When we adopted Charlie (who was about 9 or 10 at the time) we discovered that her first mom had to go into assisted living. Charlie has been an amazing companion for my mom.

Sometimes there just is no family-members to take care of the animals.
I have 3 sons, but none of them would be able to care for my cats, all I can do is hope that one of us(hubby or me)will outlive our cats.
This poor pup, just breaks your heart
He is obviously with someone right now,I wonder if it is the owner??

Yes the owner still has him, and I don't think she'll be giving him up to just anybody, that's for sure. I gave her the pets.ca website and hope she'll come on and let us know what happens.

I have given this some thought Chico... and I actually want to make it known that if my family is unable or unwilling to take on the cats if something happens to me, that they are to come on here and contact specific people to help rehome them. Plus I would want you all to know that something happened to me. I'm relatively young so I hope thats a worst case scenario... but I think it's important to have specific instructions written down especially for those of us with multiple pets (like I couldn't expect my retired parents to take on all 6 cats!) Anyhow kinda

Best of luck to the handsome fella... hope that he has found his forever home!

Badger - I was reading the Dogs X 3 Newspaper yesterday and there is an article there about a rescue called Sheba's Haven Rescue purely for senior dogs, it is a little north of Kingston. I don't know if that could be worth checking out.

We have a similar situation at the boarding kennel I work at. The owner went into the hospital and couldn't afford to keep boarding the dog/ The dog's name is Champ, and he is 12. He is mostly German Shepherd. He seems to have a good temperment, reserved but friendly. If anyone knows of someone who might be looking for a nice older dog, let me know. He needs to get out of the kennel environment.

Montreal, we also have an middle aged shepherd husky mix femal with a blue eye, Granny, and a male pit bull, King. They are kinda part of the scenery, because they are older or have issues. But, idealy they need to find homes. Ill see if I can take some pictures next time I go in,
