Smile Friend to a bunny...

Hello!

Last month, my husband and I adopted our first pet, an adorable Mini Rex rabbit. His name is Stanley and is now 12 weeks old.

I have lots of questions and am wanting to learn everything I can about taking care of my new little friend. I look forward to participating in the forum!

Hi and welcome. Your rabbit looks really cute! I have heard they are great little pets to own.

Welcome - I had a rabbit who died at a geriatric age and I miss him so much!! Rabbits make absolutely wonderful pets. One of the best resources online is www.rabbit.org. You may have difficulty depending on where you live finding a vet with great knowledge about bunnies (I know I did, I ended up driving to the vet school in PEI when he was elderly and ill) but try to find one with some experience in treating bunnies.

Congrats on your new baby!! My little guy - and he was a Dwarf Netherland so small - was house trained and other than knowing he was spoiled, had a super personality. Don't forget to rabbit proof your home - make sure exlectrical outlets are off limits and find a good place for his litter box. Buns also love to play so get some toys or make some. You will know he is happy when you see the bunny hop - I loved to see mine do that because I knew he was delieriously happy, lol (Usually, he was wanting to be chased, lol)

Enjoy your little lapin!

Welcome! I have never had a bunny but I think they are incredibily adorable. It is a pet I could see myself having sometime during my lifetime. A friend of mine has owned 2 or 3 while growing up and loved them to death.

Thanks for welcoming me CyberKitten and AliSam!

It didn't take long for my husband and I to fall in love with Stanley. He's wonderful! He has us wrapped around his little paw. As we say, the living room is all his. His toys are spread out and he runs and jumps around like he owns the place. Its great seeing him so active.

Luckily, I live in a large city with many, many vets. After asking around, I obtained 3 references for one same animal hospital who specialize in small animals. The staff is great and really knowledgeable! In fact, a few of the technicians and one of the vets there have bunnies of their own.

Although my husband and I took a month to learn how to take care of a bunny before actually adopting one, we still have lots and lots to learn. I'm happy to see that this board and its members will be able to help.
