"Leg Jerk" reaction more frequent...
I have a beagle (3 years old) and within the last few days he has been scratching more then usual and when scratched/rubbed on his back he gets the leg going....I know that this behavior is often normal (somthing along the lines of or knee jerk reaction at the doctor) but he seems especially sensitive as I can barely rub his back without the leg going crazy! I do not see any thing on his skin nor do I see any fleas/bugs etc. I also have another dog in the house and she is fine (no scratching as I would assume she would with fleas). Should I worry about him being so sensitive all of the sudden or is it weather, allergies, etc??
Thank you in advance for your help! |

The itchiness may be due to environmental or food allergies. How is the condition of his skin, coat and ears? He may also have a case of the yeasties
The leg jerk thing is odd isn't it? Bridie went through a period a few years ago very similar to your beagle ~ where I only had to run my hand over "the spot" to get her leg going and then it stopped as suddenly as it appeared. |

Thank you, Thank you!! Other then the odd scratching he looks great (skin, coat and ears) - I think I'll wait it out and see if it gets any better. He does suffer allergies each year - not too bad, usually just sneezing, ear rashes, but usually it's in spring - may just be getting them now too. Thanks again! I was starting to think no one else had this issue

I had to laugh reading this... for the last week or two my dog's been the same way, lol. If I even so much as touch his chest - which he looooooves having rubbed - his leg starts going and going and going . Ditto for the belly, ditto for the shoulder - it seems as though anywhere we touch these days sets it off! My hubby and I were just talking about this last night, wondering if it was normal or not. Everything else seems fine, so I guess we'll just see how long it lasts. Nice to know it's not just us (although we're really mean about it, cuz we can't stop laughing and laughing when it happens ). Let me know if your doggy goes back to normal!
