Deaf cat looking for a deaf owner (SPCA Montreal) - Adopted - Yay!

Hi everyone,

I've never posted here before but I'm posting this on behalf of the Montreal SPCA because this is a very special cat with a special need. Here is the request that was sent to me by email. Many thanks everyone and please contact Louise Allard for any further information. Marko

Hero is looking for a family,

The SPCA has a very special resident who is looking for a special family. His name is Hero, although we could call him Pavarotti. He is one year old. He was adopted twice and returned each time, then sent to a foster home and returned again. Hero is one of the most affectionate cats I have met in my life. He is mostly looking for human companionship and the word “independent” is not part of his vocabulary. He loves to be hugged and will ask for it. Sometimes, he refuses to be put down on the floor and hang on your neck (so cute).

But why is he returned then?

Hero is deaf – well we believe he hears a little but very little – and he doesn’t hear himself meowing out loud and at 2 a.m. which can become a problem.

So we came up with three scenarios to resolve his problem:

1. We believe Hero would be the ideal companion for a person with some hearing problems living alone and who would appreciate the companionship of a very affectionate cat all day long.

2. Vets believe that his need to meow could be improved by taken a medication prescribed for anxiety problems, Clavocalm, although Hero doesn’t suffer from any anxiety problem. There is no guarantee it would work. So in this scenario, we are looking for a volunteer family to do the experiment and give us a report of their observations. We would provide the medication.

3. Hero could live in a home where he would be kept in a isolated room during the night. That’s not the best scenario but conceivable.

Our little cuddling friend is full of unconditional love and deserves that we do everything within our power to find him a family. Hero gets alone very well with other cats and dogs and likes to play hike-and-seek.
