old age?

Our cat is 19 years old and has been losing a lot of weight over the last year. He eats normal, but throws up quite a bit. He goes to the litter box as he always has, and does not seem to be in any discomfort. Is there reason for concern, or is this a normal sign (the weight loss) when a cat gets to be this age?

Unexplained weightloss is never normal, even in old age. I'd be taking your furry friend to the vet if I were you.

checking in

It’s been a long time since I first posted about Diesel, my Dane’s problems.

I just wanted to let others who might be interested in knowing what I found out, in case their furry kid is having the same symptoms.

I finally found a vet that didn’t treat me like I was crazy/stupid. We did a pancreas test, and sure enough. Diesel has a bad pancreas, so he doesn’t create enough digestive enzymes. It was an easy fix of putting him on a daily digestive enzyme. It actually took some time to get it all figured out and under control but I’m very pleased with where we are at right now….no problems.

I now feed raw ground chicken (I buy the leg quarters from Winco for .88 cents per pound). I purchased a $80 grinder (Northern Industrial) on-line. I grind the skin, bone, organs, meat & all. I feed 4 cups twice a day. I add these supplements to each meal:
-Grizzly Salmon Oil (one large pump)
-Vitamin C (ascorbate) (to bowl tolerance)
- Dr. Schulze’s Super Food Plus (powder, ¼ teaspoon)
- Prozyme (power, 2/4 Teaspoon)

The Prozyme is the digestive enzyme. I tried two others and found that this one worked the best and is affordable.

I hope this information helps others out there. Please feel free to e-mail me with questions.
