"slipping kneecaps"

Hi: I have a 2yr old mix-half shihtzu and half toy poodle. She weights about 10lbs. Several times I noticed that she wouldn't put weight on left rear leg but then after awhile she was fine. I took her to the vet and was told she has a problem with her kneecaps slipping. I'm to watch her and she how often it happens. My question is, when this happens to her kneecap will she be in pain? If so, can I give her a baby aspirin to help.
Thanks.
Karen

Luxating patellas, or "slipping knee caps" can be in several degrees of seriousness. Many of them require surgery as they tend to get worse over time and can result in painful arthritis.
