dog bleeding

my frinds dog hurt his foot when he was playing in the snowshe doesnt have enough money to take him to the vet, its been bleeding for a few days now, and my friend soaks it in epsom salt and then puts "newskin" on it which i suppose is some sort of liquid band aid type substance, then she puts a papertowel makeshift bandage on it and a baggie to keep it dry, do you think this is helping? what other suggestions can i give her

Is it bleeding all the time, or just when the dog walks on it?
If it is not terribly deep and only bleeding when the scab gets re-opened, it would be important to keep the dog absolutely confined, like in a crate or tethered someplace safe (inside) so it can't walk. Keeping a baggie on it won't let it breathe & will encourage bacterial growth, I would think - a sock would be better. It should be kept very clean and dry. I'm not sure about the epsom salts.

But if there's any sign of infection, or it's a gaping wound instead os just a cut, or the dog seems to be in noticeable pain (not putting any weight on it, licking & bothering it constantly, etc) it really should be seen by a vet in case it has to be stitched or is getting infected.

But if it's a relatively small cut that's just getting aggravated by being walked on, keeping it clean & the dog absolutely confined will give it enough time to heal.

If its a few days later and the foot is still bleeding the dog may need stitches

It's obviously not healing on it's own and could get infected, does she know where the cut is? Can she see it?

Keeping clean is good but she could be aggrivating it.
Take the dog to the vet

(I hear an echo)
